I just bought a Springfield 3.3 in .45 acp caliber as I was preparing for the NYS law just passed.

I now see that I will be exempt due to being retired LEO.

But after shooting this very small handcannon I might be forced to leave the Glock home and EDC this baby.

The Federal ball ammo was a bit hot [ even my old hands can take it ] but the Federal Hydroshock was fun to shoot and accurate enough to do head shots at 50'.

Considering its to be a CQB pistol,50' is more than good enough to consider it a doable CCW tool.

My only question to the company on the phone [ and the lady I spoke to was AMAZINGLY knowledgable ] was why they offer a 5 round mag [ flush mount ] and a 7 round mag that protrubes about a inch +.

BUT no 6 round mag that would be very comfortable with a grip extension, she told me that ALL user/customer feedback was very welcomed thing and I should look for a 6 rounder in the future.

I put about 40 rounds through it and I am VERY satisfied.

I did try the TAP rounds and they are accurate and a bit more punch for sure.

If you are refering to the XDs, mine has been great. Accurate and reliable. To me, felt recoil with SD loads is a heck of a lot less than 38+P in a LW j-frame. I have been shooting target loads (200gr lswc) for fun and practice, recoil is mild or less. I put 100rds through it a the range thur. had to force myself to put it down. :)

Right now 7 & 5 rd mags are available.The 7 rd'ers are a little hard to find.I paid $35 for mine.My XDS came with 2 5 rd'ers.I've heard that they were supposed to come with 1-5 & 1-7.

Got mine just before the nonsense started. My 7 rd magazine arrived soon after the madness started, but thankfully i'd ordered it beforehand. I have only shot 70 rounds through mine. 50 target FMJ and a box of Hornady. It cycles reliably. I do have to lock the slide and release via the slide release though rather than load the magazine then rack the slide. It is not 100% reliable by racking. I had 2 FTF.

Curious if you have the same issue? I may just be racking and releasing too slowly.

I have one and bought one of the extended mags. I love that thing and carry it a lot. Very accurate. 100% on all levels with recoil amazingly easy to handle. Hard hitter in .45. Hard to beat for a carry piece.

herkyguy

It will feed a round reliably from slide lock useing the "slingshot" method, but you need to rack back the slide like a real man :) It likes it rough. Same when clearing a live round, give all you got, or you will have to drop the mag and shake the round out.

btw

my LGS still had the 7 rd mags and I might grab another so I have 2 to EDC.

I took the finger extensions off as they served me no use and I shoot it just as well with bare mag and no plastic thigadohickys on it.

I still hope they listen and make a 6 rounder.

I ran some Winchester Ranger Talon +P through mine. My gun really like that stuff, nice tight groups. The +P lets you know it's there.

ouch, that stings the pride a bit.... but point taken.

i just found it took more effort than it was worth to "reliably" rack a new one. I'm training myself to lock the slide back first as it seems the safer course.

still an awesome little gun.

i too looked/handled an xds a few days ago, but bought a g36. i will admit the xds was a fine looking weapon, and a great performer judging by the op's post.

I picked up my XDS in December, and it's been my EDC ever since. It came with 2 5 round mags; I immediately ordered 2 7 round mags, and just ordered 2 more from grabagun.com. I also installed the PRP spring kit, and it brought the trigger pull down to a very manageable #5 - I highly recommend it.

With the 7 round mag, it's almost the exact same dimensions as my old Colt Officer and very comfortable to carry and shoot. With the 5 rounder it's manageable to shoot, and a breeze to carry.

OP, if you're looking for a grip between the 5 round and the 7 round magazine, you should consider adding a Pearce Grip extension to your 5 round mag:

I got my XD-s .45 just a few days after insanity day 1.

I've shot 300 rounds or so, including 20 rounds of +p+ Ranger. It is accurate. Easy to carry. Nice trigger. Much to like about this gun. It's a pretty good job of engineering to design a nice thin .45. I sometimes carry it in a Remora holster in my pocket.

I just returned from the range and I found the XD-S to be fun to shoot and remarkably accurate.
I think I'll keep it! :)
