Springfield XD in 2023?

“Back in the day” the XD series seemed to be right up there with the Glock in internet popularity. They’re still around but I hear far less about them, and judging by the poll that’s currently ongoing, they don’t seem to be many peoples’ favorite. Are they still worth a look? My favorite LGS has an HS2000, which is a full sized XD9 from before Springfield took over import, for $200… but I absolutely, positively don’t need it. But anything that goes bang for that price is a good deal, right?

Grab it and hope you don't get arrested for petty larceny. It's an older model, but for that price, get it if you like it. The XD series are still available but the XDM has replaced it. I have an XDM in both 9mm and .45, and they are terrific guns. Replace the factory trigger with a PRP (Powder River Precision) trigger and you'll have the smoothest striker-fired shooter on the planet.

No brainer for $200. My full size xd 45 has been excellent and so has my xd-s.

Seems unanimous gents, I’ll swing by on Monday and see if it’s still there. I know its a deal but is it actually a great gun or just “good for the price?”

Polymer guns are ugly but beyond the aesthetics, is there anything to recommend the platform? Any weaknesses? I am sure I can always sell it if I don’t like it.

The Croats make good guns. I have an XD and an XDM.

The XDM9 w/ a TLR-7A resides in my bedside table. A handful of pistol. Heavy.

The XD9 sub-compact rides in my truck w/ me. Remarkably accurate. Fits my hand well. I have no idea why they call it a sub-compact as it is anything but that.

I‘d take either to the Zombi Apocalypse. Smooth. I can’t remember a jam. No worries w/ +P loading. I might even have run a pile of +P+ through them.

Can’t miss (ah hem) at that price.

I made a thread about it maybe a couple of months back. I got a used XD9 for $277 OTD. The winning bid was right around $200.

Great pistols. I've had it out to the range three times and have been impressed. My friend shot it and liked it, too. It seems to be a fine pistol, as well-made as an Glock, S&W, Ruger, etc.

The used ones are really cheap right now. Maybe the new ones, too?

Some people don't like a grip safety. The small ones are noticeably larger than the new micro nines. Springfield may not be making them much longer...

All good reasons to grab a great deal while you can!

I like the sights and ergos. The trigger is excellent. Very pleased with it.

If this pistol is anything like mine, you'll be happy.
I bought the powder river XDM 9mm offering some years back & thought it was the most accurate semi l I had ever shot. Shoots much better than me.

I don't have one anymore but was an early adopter of the Croatian Sensation and one of the original members of what later became the XDforum.









IIRC my HS2K was just a little more than $200.00 when new.

I had a XD-40 Service & carried it for several years. It was accurate & reliable. The biggest downside for me is that those guns have a high bore axis & there are other guns that fit my hand better (work better ergonomically for me). There is nothing wrong with them. The only question is whether or not you will like it. At that price if you don't you can probably get your money back out of it.

I have several XD’s in various sizes and calibers. I really tried to like the self proclaimed “perfection” but couldn’t find one I shot well. The XD series feels natural in my hand. My first one, a XD9SC, has over 30k rounds through it now. Got it way back in 2001.

The Echelon with it's removable FCU will be replacing the XD/XDM in Sprinfgfield's lineup.

The HS2000 was an excellent pistol and a great value before SA took over importing/marketing it. They were very reliable and were a great alternative for folks who didn't like the feel of Glocks

It's a good looking pistol, except for the rail on the frame.

I love my XD-45 tactical. 100% reliable (except with Semi wad cutters). Superbly accurate, when I’m on-it’s 14 rounds in the black at 50 feet. I chose it over the Glock because of the grip safety. It’s my bad neighborhood carry. 13+1 and 2 13 round magazines (that’s 40 gold dots) to get me home.
You cannot go wrong with an XD IMHO.

Mine was made in December of 1999. I paid $250 for it and it is a great pistol.

The Prodigy is an entry level 2011, costing around 1400 and been out for about a year. Upon its release, it had major issues, and doesn't have a good reputation in 2011 circles.
