Anyone purchased one recently? What are your overall impressions of the gun? I've only had mine a few weeks, but it is really growing on me. Nice ergonomics (for me, anyway), points naturally, just about the right weight for a full-sized sidearm, good (if not great) sights and most importantly - a real straight shooter. I dunno if that advertised "match" barrel has anything to do with it, but this baby is really makin' me proud. I'm at around 300 rounds through her, with 2 FS/Clean&Lubes along the way. No big surprise, but this gun seems to really settle down and deliver with each successive mag passed through it.

I'd be interested in hearing any other first-hand experiences with the XD(M)!

After I shoot the Ohio IDPA Championship with my G34, I'll be moving over to my XD(M) .40 for some ESP action. I love my XD(M), the size makes it feel like a 9mm.

This might be my next handgun purchase. I love my XD-40sc and if this has even slightly better ergonomics, trigger, sights, accuracy (as are all claimed by Springfield) then I will be in love with it. Plus, 16 rounds of .40 in the same grip as the old XD? Sign me up! But, I might wait for the .45 variant if it is confirmed by Springfield soon. Or I'll get both!

They are simply awesome! I bought the all black version, couldn't justify the added cost of the two-tone.

We have had several come thru the shop, and have a couple of guys using them in competition. All the reports so far have been positive.

Most people like the grip shape and size better, and you have the option of 3 different back straps. The stock trigger has both shorter pretravel, and overtravel/reset, and seems to break a little cleaner. It responds to the same tuning as the orginal XD so very short 2.5 lbs trigger's are fairly easy to get. The 4.5" slide length seems to have a very nice balance to it, much better then the 5" Tactical model. And the accuracy does seem to be better the standard version. And of course the 16 rounds of 40 is a nice touch. 100_1222.gif

I have an XD SC in .40 any really like it. When I first saw a pic of the XD M I thought it was butt ugly, but I will confess that I now think it looks dang good and lust over one in 9MM. I have yet had the chance to handle one. Two gun shows and not a single one to be seen. :scrutiny:

i don't own one, but i did get to shoiot one today for the first time. i love sa, and i love xd's, but i will keep my xd service model. it was good that i shoty the xd m as it saved me the money that i would have spent on one. the xd m points different than the xd's that i am used too. when i would bring the gun up to target the sights wouldn't be aligned like they would have been with my xd serice model. i would have to physically line up the sights. which is something that i haven't done in i don't know how long.

also i don't know if it was the magazines, or the gun, i am hoping that it was the mags which is an easy fix, but my buddy that owns it had 10 faliure to feeds, i checked the gun out everything seemed to be good, and properly lubed and such, ammo was umc. so i am thinking that they haven't yet worked out the kinks in the mags, yet it is a new designed gun, and this is exactly why i wait a while when new guns come on the market before i grab one.

Bob: The trigger job...easily performed by a gunsmith I assume?

How much does something like that run? I live in BFE so I would probably have to send it off (don't have an xdm...very hesitant on the caliber...wish they would hurry up with something bigger and/or hotter (.45/10mm)).

TIA

I really like mine. I've cycled over 400 rounds through it with no problems at all so far! Great little pistol and has become one of my carry pieces alongside my beloved XD45! 16+1 magazine capacity i s also quite nice!

I've handled several of them at the gun store and one of them is next on my "spending the family fortune" pursuit. I love high capacity guns, and the XDM hits both my favorite caliber to shoot and for SD, and with 17+1... it's a shooter you can take to the firefight. My Smith 4006 only holds 11+1, and there's a big difference in having an extra 6 shots... it's like having a spare revolver loaded and in your hand. I'll be excited to get one, but I bought the gates for the shooting range with my "gun money" for this quarter, so I'm having to wait until it "accumulates" again.

Now, every time I go through the gates, I say to myself... "there hangs my XDM..." ... bummer...

It's 16+1, not 17+1, but once you get over 12 or 13 rounds of .40 S&W in a slim grip, it doesn't matter much! I bought one last weekend and put 160 rounds through it with only 1 failure to feed in the very first magazine. The rest of the rounds went flawlessly and it's a very accurate and controllable full-size combat pistol. I'd recommend it to anyone who does not already own a full-size .40 or an XD-40 of any kind. If you already have an original XD-40 and love it, the XDM's slight differences don't really justify buying one, in my opinion. But the 16+1 magazine capacity plus the match-grade barrel convinced me to grab one. Mine's a bi-tone and looks killer. My XD-40 subcompact is far from being retired, though.

At this time a full trigger job involves a lot of hand work such as welding up the trigger bar and then shaping it with a hand file. They come out very nice but you really need to know what you are doing.

Within the next couple of months we will be making a replacement sear and trigger bar much like the one's we make for the rest of the XD series of pistols. But for now we are doing them one at a time.

I've got a XDsc 9mm (it was my first gun) and I love the thing, my only gripe is the long reset. I thought the XDm grip contours were ugly when i first saw it but I was unaware of all the new little features that the gun had, especially like the shorter reset

.40S&W is the only common handgun caliber that isn't represented in my gun collection and now after reading about the XDm it may get added to my collection sometime early next year (a new S&W J frame is in my immediate future). I've shot my buddy's subcompact glock .40 and it was too snappy for my liking although i'd think that in a full size this excessive (IMO) muzzle flip would be lessened.

Springfield makes other .357sig XDs. What else besides a barrel swap would be required to convert the XDm? The mags should be ok, no?
