Recently traded in 2 of my no longer wanted pocket guns (see lengthy separate thread) for a Springfield XDM9. Already have several full size 9mm guns incl. Glocks, CZ and Sigs. What sold me was a (rather superficial) first impression of the gun's cool looks along with the all the stuff that came in the case which incl. 2 19 round steel mags, dual mag carrying case, speed loader, a paddle holster as well as a couple grip inserts. All for about $580 at my local gun shop.

The guns shoots really nicely and I also like the trigger pull a lot better than my Glock 19. All in all a happy camper, this gun deserves a lot more positive press than it has been getting.

I switched out my Glock 19, which I've carried daily for 6-7 years, for an XDm 3.8 9mm.
I'm really happy with it. It's more than accurate enough, holds 20 rounds and is very comfortable to carry.

I installed a JPoint sight and found that it works extremely well for fast shooting. I get significantly faster 1st shot hits and faster splits. The extra size isn't noticeable.

After trying a few paddle holsters, I tossed them in the holster box and went back to the one that came with the gun.

I had a Leupold DeltaPoint 7.5 MOA that I tried on several of my pistols. To be honest, even at 10-15 yards the groups were not better (5"-10") than without the sight. Same results with a 9mm and 45 sig. Bought it because I am near sighted and have problems aiming. Sold it recently. How well does the J Point work for you and why did you get it?
 
When it was called 2000 something they could not even move them for $250. That topper ware box with contents up there is worth about $400 max. When one considers it's made in Croatia the price tag on new ones in local shop was a shock to me.

ummm, please provide a list of guns like the xdm9 for $400....

ps and i own hk, sigs and other higher priced pistols. the xdm9 is a fair deal.
 
I'm a big fan. Mine has been totally trouble free. I've added TruGlo FO sights and X-Treme rubberized grip inserts (second picture). It has become the 9mm that goes to the range with me the most often.

I won one at Area 6 and I am very happy with it! I shoot a G34 in matches so this is one of my home defense/backpack guns now.
 
XDM is a great gun

I have 3, 40 cal, 9mm, and 9mm 3.8. These guns are fun to shoot, great capacity, reliable, easy to maintain, and accurate. I couldn't be happier with mine. I will likely add a 45 anc compact 9 to my collection before too long. Enjoy your XDM.
 
Springfield makes good stuff. I made a deal on an XD-9 Service just before Springfield came out with the XDm. Maybe they'll let me trade.

I was a little suprised that my slow-fire groups weren't any better with the JPoint over the factory iron sights, but that wasn't why I use it. I'm not really concerned about shooting super tight groups, I'm interested in getting rounds on target as fast as possible.

In a gunfight, pinpoint accuracy isn't going to be in the cards. The strong tendency for amlost everyone is to focus on the target (the guy who's trying to kill you and probably isn't just standing there making a big fat target of himself) and not on the front sight. Since the JPoint dot is in the same focal plane as the target, that potential problem is eliminated.

Watch the shooters at a steel match. They're not interested in hitting the center of the target, they want to get hits ASAP. The best scores are made by the "Open" class shooters with the dot sights.
 
I've got the 3.8" in .40s&W. The XDm is just a great gun and a blast to shoot. Zero malfunctions no matter what I feed it for ammo, from low power plinking handloads to hot hollowpoint defense rounds. Enjoy.

the holster/mag pouches are cheap trinkets to dazzle perspective buyers. same garbage that came with my springfield 1911's lol

if you try to use them, they pull away from your body and flop around lol

I have not found that to be the case at all. I tried paddle holsters by Blade-Tech and Comp_tac and didn't like either one of them. The stock XD paddle holds the gun right where I want it, tight to my side, and the holster is just as good today as it was when I started wearing it (daily) months ago.

I love my XDm 40. I like the gear that came with it so much I stopped using some dedicated stuff for IPSC (most importantly the holster, which is one of the favorite I own for any gun). The gun will shoot ~2" at 25 yards, though the factory trigger makes doing so hard. With the Powder River kit, the gun shoots much better.

All in, I'm a happy guy. The gun is worth every penny.
 
I have to agree- the looks of the gun are also a nice perk. I swapped out my G17 for the original XD 40 and have been extremely happy with the change. I was a big glock fan until I started playing with the XD series at the range.

I'm with you on this. I own a couple of XDs (a pre-Melonite XDSC40 and XDSC9), the second of which came with all the 'extras'-I'd been much happier paying a few bucks less for just the gun.

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel (or if you do, at least make it better), they should have just tossed in an UpLULA instead of the XD loader. Iff'n I'm not mistaken, to their credit, S&W has done so with their M&P packages.
I can't tell you where my XD loader is now-think it's probably in my loader box...right next to my holster box! :banghead:
Best double mag pouch I've tried has been the DeSantis leather models-they're smaller than many as they have more of a 'shrink wrap' fit than most leather pouches I've seen (tried Galco and High Noon). I prefer dual vertical holders instead of the angled unit with the XD.

I'm not much on Kydex and paddle holsters-I guess they have their place, but I still prefer leather holsters with belt loops.

I might rename the thread-maybe leave out the 'M'? :uhoh:
I've steered a number of new shooters to the XD9-I point out the worst thing 'bout 'em to me is the thickness, and unless you really need the interchangeable backstraps (I don't), I'd pass on the M line.

Looks are subjective (I like the regular line better), but I've always thought the match grade barrel a bit too much marketing.
As darn accurate as the regular XDs are, I wonder if the match grade barrel makes any difference at all, 'specially if you're using it as a SD weapon.

that's what i was implying too.

i'd rather have paid less for my springfield armory 1911's without the cheap gear. either that or keep the same price and stick an extra mag in instead of the cheap plastic crap.

they all came with belt loop plastic ones that are unusable. one of my 1911's won't even fit in one because it's warped lol
 
I love my XD45 Tactical :) 3120 rounds since March 3rd 2011 and only 6 failure to feeds due to burrs on bullets preventing full chambering without a love tap, 0 failure to fires, 0 failures to extract. Finish looks just as good as the day I bought it and the trigger is nice and repeatable and it's accurate too :)

I have to disagree on the loader, I find it is quicker than not using one. Just set the bottom of the magazine on your knee or the table or something solid and just push it to the back of the magazine with your thumb and push down on the loader, then repeat. Works real slick considering it came with the gun.

I don't use the holster or the mag holders but I'd be willing to use the mag holders in a competition environment compared to my Safariland Duty holder simply because it's faster. My only complaint with the mag holder is that the magazines sit back to back (or is it front to front) You CAN insert one of them so that it sits in the same direction but it is not as secure.
