i never see them and always "hear" of some that "just got sold'. I think I've missed 6-8 if you believe the gun show guys and LGS. I know i missed one by 10 minutes because the buys was still filling out the paper work when i walked up.

Anyone know why there are so few coming from Springfield? Even large sporting good stores which normally have tons of pistols are dry with not much coming in. Anyone hear anything?

I just got one after a 2 month wait but they are popular. I love mine and they have quite a following for good reason. Springfield is producing them fast thou. I think they are also gearing up the 9 and 40 right now as well.

Try getting a Sheild if you want to wait. Great gun from what I hear but if s&w can't produce enough oh well. I got sick of waiting for that and got a kahr. They lost my business due to waiting over 6 months.

Xds usually is a month wait. My LGS got 9 in at one time.

If it is a new, popular, carry sized handgun, you may have trouble finding one for a while. Best example I can cite is the LCP, but the LC9, CM9, Shield, (and I'm sure, several others) have all seen this phenomenon.

Patience.

I "per-paid" and on a wait list of a large sporting goods chain, but its been almost a month. They haven't gotten any in almost 3 months. Just wondered how some gun shops get 5 or 9 at a time and large ones don't get any.

Last time I went to my LGS, they had two in stock. I woulda snapped one up, but between my employment status and a recent auto repair, that ain't happening.

i got myself one just after Christmas along with the 3 guys in back of me
its a great little gun but know i want to get a XDM

In my small town, my dealer got 12 in one shot, and they lasted a couple of weeks. After a few trips to the range with mine, I wish I had bought 2 when I had the chance.

The XDS is pretty much vapor around here, so I put it out of my head. I had seen a Kahr CW45 sitting in the case at a LGS for a few weeks, I finally got things worked out to get it, decided to call just before I left to go pick the pistol up and sure enough it had sold an hour before I called.
Kicking dirt, I popped on the local forum and damn if a fresh XDs wasn't just posted in the classifieds.... Very reasonable deal that included some hard to Speer SB ammo to boot...

Hang in Steel185.....yours will come along.

Waiting list

Got on a LGS list and they got in the stainless upper for a few shekels more and I am HAPPY that I went for it.

they were on sale and I got the SS upper for about what my friend got his blued model for a few weeks later.

Had mine about month or so and LOVE it.

Its now the CCW daily and that says a great deal.

Poke around. I couldn't find one at three stores located in easy-to-find, off the interstate areas. Then I went to one in a less convenient location (Birmingham Pistol Wholesale) and they had two.

I've seen about 10X more of these than I have S&W Shields.

Odd, around here it's the reverse.

I was curious if there were manufacturing issues at springfield. One Salesperson claims spingfield is only producing frames as fast as they can and not assembling to get as many frames complete before the ban, incase it happens. I work in the manufacture business (not guns) and I can tell you that doesn't make since. If your machines and tooling is set up for lets say half to produce frames (i don't know how Springfield is set up) and the other half to assemble. The cost to change over everything to just produce frames would be too costly in such a short term. Also unless everyone in the plant is trained on making frames, there will be people with not much work to do, not very efficient.

SO i thought there might be something else, but it looks like they just don't stay on shelves very long. Still doesn't explain the lack of other Pistols, Here in Iowa no one is recieving much, as in just not coming on the daily truck, in the way of Springfileds, GLocks, S&W, or KImbers. That's a lot of different manufactures that should be shipping product.

I bought one as soon as I found it. I knew it would be gone later, so I jumped on it. That was in November. I love it. You are behind the curve now, so be patient. It's worth the wait if it's your cup of tea. Supply will catch up.

In the mean time, look for an extended mag, a laser if you want one, and a hybrid IWB holster. Hidden Hybrid holsters makes a good one. Desantes makes a good pocket holster.

One of the reasons for shortages of specific models is that a number of manufacturers have moved production schedules around to only make high demand, high margin items. This is particularly the case for AR manufacturers who have decided to make a few models and lots of them rather than every model in the catalog. This simplifies production due to fewer change overs (tooling, setup) and increases profit ... assuming you sell what you make and don't lose customers in the long run.

I would spend this extra time trying to find second-hand S&W CS45. It's professional grade firearm of almost identical dimensions. If you wait there will be plenty of XDs guns around with no need to hunt of them.

You can blame me. I bought two.

Both were truly "right place at the right time" purchases, though. I've only seen a couple, since, and one was pulled off the shelf as soon as I walked in and handed to the customer who ended up buying it.

I saw one in Little Rock yesterday. Was hoping to see a Shield or LC9 though.

I was in a LGS today and they had an XDS in the case and several more in back. Another larger gun store got over 30 in one day a few weeks ago, they sold them all in 3 days.

I got my 3rd Shield today. I got lucky and happened to be in the right spot at the right time.

If you're patient your gun will come along, believe me.

Saw one yesterday

At Oak Ridge Gun Store in Orlando, FL. Actually, I think they had two.
There was a guy looking at one but he seemed to be leaning towards a full XD. You could call them and ask. Something could probably be worked out to transfer one to your local dealer.
I got mine several months ago and never leave home without it!

Didn't the XDS have some major teething problems? I thought some time back that they slowed or temporarily may have halted production to get the bugs worked out.

I was thinking of buying one when the first hit the market. I did some pre-purchase research on the forums and found the early adopters were having a fair bit of functional trouble with the guns. I decided to wait for a couple of years before jumping in.

I kind of lose track of time though, and can't really remember how long ago that was.
