Why do some Springfields have Brazil on the frames and some do not? A local shop has 3 used ones and only one has Brazil on it.

Domestic content regulations.
If enough work is done in the US on rough parts brought in from Brazil, they don't have to mark it as an import. If they bring it in as a finished product, or one with only a little final work left to be done at SA, they do. Don't jump to conclusions, some are marked Brazil under a grip. Don't worry about it, the Brazilian guns are fine, it is just easier for them to do the lower volume guns at Geneseo.

As the first reply said, it's a contect/foreign manufacture issue.

Imbel in Brazil supplies Springfield with a large number of frames, slides, parts, and even finished handguns. Imbel has been around for a long time making high quality firearms. They know what they are doing there.

Thankfully, they have relocated the markings to the bottom of the dust cover. The older ones had it stamped on the side.

My information is that if the S/N starts with NM, it does not mean it is a National Match, it means the pistol was put together at the SA factory in Genesco NY. JoeyT
