Spyderco Knives.

Does anyone own a Spyderco Smock or Tuff knife? I've always liked the Tuff and like most other Hossom designed knives, they carry a large price tag.

The Smock is another Spyderco that I've been eyeing for some time now. They're not much cheaper and I kinda want both of them.

For those of you that own both or have in the past, if you had to choose one, which would it be?

I like the Tuff as it reminds me of the Spyderco Rock Salt and Forager knives that I have. Both are also designs from Jerry Hossom.

I handled a smock. I did not like it. Flipper tab was slick and hard to use, and the ergos we're not for me. But I'm not a big Spyderco guy, maybe I was doing it wrong.

Ed Schempp designed the Tuff... the Smock is much thinner in the handle, lighter and the fidget factor for some is what draws users to it

I typically use Ed's Rock Salt design in hunting camp, hard knife to misplace but a joy to use.

Yeah, I like Ed Schempp designed knives also. Guess that means that I'll be looking to buy the Tuff knife.

I have the Rock Salt and the Schempp Rock knives, both are great and I doubt I'll ever get rid of them.

The tuff is hard to find as it's discontinued, the ones available are way to expensive imo. It's a nice knife. But for that kind of money you can get alot of other knife.

The smock is easy to find, and not outrageous in price. I also hate front flippers so I would go with another model.

Between both if the tuff is your grail go for it, the price makes it difficult otherwise.

I just learned of both of these knives today and would get the Smock first.

I am a fan Wharncliffe blades and the Smock is close enough.

I'm seriously trying to look past its price point to get a Spyderco Canis...

It seems overpriced for what it is. I'm not sure I like it at all in fact. For that kind of coin, I'd replace the Gerber BMF that was stolen from me in 1998. Now that's a knife. I have always liked my Spyderco knives but I have yet to see them produce a knife that I felt was an improvement from my Police model or my Endura that I acquired decades ago. Until they produce a knife that is a significant improvement over either one of those, I'm not interested in Spydercos.

I have many Spydercos, love them, and am affiliated with the company. I additionally know Ed Schempp, and like him a lot.

That said, I dislike the handle to blade angle- almost a pistol grip shape- on many Spydercos. I believe it artificially forces the user to hold the knife at an angle which may not be optimal. I appreciate that the Smock is not one of these... however, I don't love the angle of the Smock blade tip. (Shrug.)
