Im planning on getting a knife I can carry at work ( 2" blade restriction there). I like Spyderco knives. I have been looking around and came across the Spyderco Squeak and the Spyderco Chicago. Honestly, they look very similar to me. And they are priced very closely to each other.
If any of you have experience with these two knives, can you fill me in on the difference between them.

I don't have experience with either, but it looks like the biggest difference is that the Chicago locks and the Squeak doesn't.

The Chicago is made in Taiwan, but that's not a bad thing. The Chicago's blade in CTS-BD1 which is a decent steel. The Squeak's blade is Bohler N690, a slightly tweaked equivalent equivalent to VG-10, and a bit better steel than BD1.

The Chicago, being a liner lock on standoffs, has flow through construction so you can clean it out very easily. That said, my corrosive sweat and the liners on the Chicago not being polished to mitigate corrosion lead mine to develop rust on the scale side of the liners. But that was 4 years ago, and Spyderco may have started polishing the liners since then to prevent this.

If your work will allow you to have a 2.4" blade with 2" cutting edge, then I'd recommend the Blade HQ G10 scale CRKT Pilar over either Spyderco, even though it has a lesser blade steel than those two, because it's a frame lock without liners. The Boker Plus Subcom is another high quality 2" blade frame lock without liners, but the handle is tall top to bottom and the jimping all around is aggressive, so it's not the most comfortable knife to carry.

Really it comes down to your needs and wants though. How important are corrosion resistance, edge retention, ease of clean out, and a locking blade to you? What's your max budget?

Around $50 is my max budget. And a locking blade is pretty much a necessity for me. I have several crkt knives, but was wanting to give spyderco a shot..

The Chicago is probably your best bet then. Discussions I've recently participated in over on the Spyderco forum lead me to believe that aren't interested in making budget frame locks anytime soon.

Another vote for the Chicago. The Squeak SLIPIT is a Spyderco non-locking one-hand opening knife.
