Been awhile since I have posted as college takes the majority of my attention.

I recently ordered a Gayle Bradley Spyderco from Cutlery Shoppe, who Nutnfancy advertised. It came very fast through the postal service.

This is where the fun stopped.

Upon inspecting the knife very closely, I noticed that on the left carbon fiber scale, second set screw up from the bottom there are ALOT of scratches. I was actually kinda stumped and had to look 3 more times and rub it a little with my thumb, thinking maybe it was cat hair or loose fibers. NOPE. Scratches. The bag INSIDE the spyderco box was not sealed and open.

So, I gave CS a shout on their 800 number and talked to a very nice lady. I explained what I found in my inspection, that I came on a recommendation from Nutnfancy, and that out of habit from my past military experience that I closely inspect knives over $60 for any such blemishes (especially a spyderco!) The nice lady was very understanding and this is what should be happening monday....

They are going to send me a replacement knife, no cost, with the required materials to return the unit I have, at no cost. So, I am so far pleased with my first order from Cutlery Shoppe with the caveat of a proper replacement unit sent next week without blemishes. I explained to the lady that since the blade is made out of CPM-M4, made by crucible here, that the problem PROBABLY came from someone in "Taichung Taiwan" who assembled the knife, to which they agreed.

I just want a flawless knife. That is what I expect from spyderco, especially on a higher end knife such as this. If I pay alot of money for a quality knife, I expect it to be flawless. I'll try to post a pic later if I can make one.

you got it HSO. Its half complete pending the rest of the deal. But I think the really important part is QC not catching the issue at the factory.

Opened Packet

From your description, this does not seem like a factory QC failure.

It sounds to me more like distributor or retailer handling, or possibly a product return by someone who wanted to trade up or over.

Even if it is a QC issue, I don't think it is all that big a deal in the grand scheme of things unless it is a common issue, which it does not appear to be.

I have ordered several for myself and as gifts and am very happy with their service. One complaint and it was replaced, no problem.
