Hey guys, I'm just curious as to what you think; What do you guys think about the Spyderco Tenacious as an EDC knife, or just a general utility knife? I've heard nothing but great things about it and I'm probably gonna order one tonight if possible.

I do not own or carry one myself, but I have used them before and know a couple people who carry them. When I have used one, it seemed solid and sharp, and was lightweight.

Looking at the Spyderco website, the knife is made of good steel (8CR13MOV), and only weighs 4oz. What isn't to like? It is a solid knife and it can be had for a great price.

If I had to come up with a complaint from my (admittedly limited) use, I would say that the knife seemed a little bit thin - it didn't really fill my hand as well as the Griptilian that I usually carry, but I certainly don't think that should prevent you from buying one.

I love mine! It rides in the corner of my back pocket and I barely know it's there. It's nice to have a good utility knife that will hold it's own in a social situation. Besides that it looks cool.

I agree; great knife. I have it, and it's slightly smaller brother, the Persistence. Personally, I find myself favoring the Persistence a bit more. Either way, you can't go wrong.

The Tenacious is a little big and heavy for EDC. Like K96771, I think most folks will get more use from a Persistence.

In either case, these, are excellent knives at great prices.

+1 to what JShirley said. I have a Tenacious, and as much as I love the knife, it's just a little large for an EDC, in my opinion. I'm going to pick up a Persistence to replace it.

The Tenacious is a well regarded knife.

However, it is made in China, if that is an issue.

It's nice and great bang for the buck but a Delica or Endura in VG10 has (to me) much better steel...equally easy to sharpen with probably double edge holding. Better yet if you really like a long lasting edge, look at the Native. The cost is amortized over time with durable goods, so impulse buying the entry level item may not be as good a value as it seems.

Go Native. I took the advice of many on the board who also liked the Delica and Endura.

The Native is now my favorite EDC. Simple, sharp and stays that way and very lightweight.

i own a tenacious and it is a great knife, reminds me of my buck bantam on steel quality...but the spyderco pen knife with GIN1 steel (slightly better than 420HC) seems to wear better than the 8cr13mov steel on the tenacious...not a lot but i like how it sharpens more... both are good knives and i carry both regularly depending solely on which one was closer to the top of the dresser drawer after ive thrown in my socks...although the locking aspect does make it a safe knife

a definite buy man you wont be sorry

Did you go for the Tenacious or Persistence?
I weighed my options and I went for the Tenacious. Personally, a medium sized knife doesn't bother me. I was asking around about the Tenacious to some of my friends and he actually had a Persistence. I liked the knife very much, but it just seemed a bit too small for me. To each his own, eh?

I acquired a Spyderco Ambitious from Amazon, it is the even smaller brother of the Tenacious and the Persistence; here's a pic, with a Tenacious for comparison:

Just got mine today. I think I've fallen in LOVE. I can't believe how sharp it is right from the factory!!

Here's my two favorite knives :D

You may want to check out NutNFancy and CutleryLovers reviews of the Tenacious on YouTube. They both end up slicing themselves with the Tenacious! That said, they both seemed to like the knife. I bought one. I think it's a very good knife for the money. It certainly looks more expensive than it is. However, for EDC I prefer my Benchmade Griptillian or Mini-Griptillian.

I actually EDC'd the larger Endura 4 for a while. Still do occasionally. The Tenacious shouldn't be hard to pocket carry at all.

They're really light and small for their size, and they'll fit into just about any pocket as long as it's not full of other stuff.

I carry one of the 1st gen Police models quite often never have had an issue with size in pocket, just a heavy knife. I also carry a Salsa at times, much lighter. I don't think you can go wrong with the Tenacious.
