I hear rumors of a Ruger SR9, and that it's possibly a Glock or M&P-like striker fired 9mm semiauto. Any info here? Thoughts?

Saw some threads on RugerForum.com earlier said to check Rugers website tomorrow morning after 10:00 am also said check www.DownRangeTV.com after 1:00 am might be video of interest to Ruger fans. They didn't saw whether the time was Eastern or Pacific

Seems really dated design back to the 90's. Where's the adjustable panel grip for ergonimics.

Looks like the P345. Kind of ugly, hopefully it performs well. It looks promising.

I saw two of them at the gun show in Dale City, VA yesterday.

It feels really nice in the hand. I like the feel of the fine checkering. Much less slippery feel than other Ruger plastic-fantastic. Feels like a minutely thinner grip than a Glock 17.

The ambi-mag release was a little stiff. Probably nothing a squirt of silcone spray wouldn't improve. The safety lever was tiny, but positive.

Trigger feels EXACTLY like a Glock trigger.

17-round mags were in the box along with what appeared to be some sort of folding knife, and mag-loader tool, and the el-cheapo lock.

I forget what was the price. I wasn't paying attention 'cause I don't need any more 9mm pistols.

held one today at Red's Indoor Range in Austin, TX. It felt nice for a Ruger, but still had that cheap feel that I usually associate with their guns. The safety lever was small which was a uncomforting to me. It did have 2-17 round mags and a freebie 3.5" folding knife. The bi-tone was nice but the gun wasn't anything to write home about. If I recall correctly, the price tag was in the mid to high $400's.

Anyone shot one? I am a well-known Ruger lover, but I really didn't like the P345. How does it compare in fit and finish to a M&P?

Looks promising. Another poly pistol to add to the sea of poly 9's, 40's and
45's. I seem to keep adding them to my collection though!!!

The trigger on the one I fired this weekend felt nothing like a Glock. It was easily the worst trigger I've ever felt on an auto loader... well, it's a close second to the VP70.

Everything else about the gun is uninspiring as there's nothing new or exceptional about it. With a trigger like that I will have to pass. I was really hoping for more.

If you are looking for excuses to add another plastic hi-cap 9, bass806, this SR-9 does have a thinner grip than most (which I find appealing) and does have a manual safety (again, which I find appealing since I shoot a lot of 1911s). And though the trigger is not anywhere near as light and crisp as a 1911, it is the same for every shot. And boy does it hold a lot of ammo!

It looks no better or worse than a P95 in terms of over all fit and finish. The polymer lower is a little too shiny and smooth for my liking (l prefer the textured look of HK's and Glocks). The control levers are small and for me kind of clumsy.

Aside from the negative it's a decent looking pistol. The center of bore seems to be lower than previous Ruger auto's. It felt pretty good in my hand, but that trigger was a HUGE turn off for me. Crrreeeep, hang, more tension, crrrreeeeep, hang, BOOM! If you're not into making small groups with your guns and just like to plug away at dirt clods and pop bottles, you might not even care about the horrendous trigger. But for me, coupled with the lack of anything even remotely innovative, the trigger is a deal breaker.

In all likelihood it will be a reliable decent gun for someone on a budget (less than $400) but for the money I would go with the S&W M&P.

sturmgewehr,

For what it is worth, my SR-9 trigger started out precisely as you describe. And after 600 rounds, it is not so bad. Not great, mind you. But not so bad. And for carry purposes and IDPA (ssp), it is perfectly acceptable to me.

What really chaps me about the gun (just so you do not think I am necessarily out promoting it to everyone) is the magazine safety.... And the company prohibition against dry-firing the gun when the magazine is not in place. That, to me, is the biggest downside to the gun.

Held one at Sportsman's Warehouse about a week ago. I liked the look of it; it felt nice in my hand- but the trigger was terrible... heavy and gritty with a weak return spring.

Pass.
