I have been trying to find a load for some 62gr ss109 pulled projectiles. I have tried h335 and h322 without success. Anywhere from 21-24 grains of charge depending on the powder used. These are being fired from a 1 in 8" twist 16" AR.

At 25yds, the best 5 shot group I can get is at least an inch, if not more. No 2 holes touching. I didn't bother measuring because I was mad. This is from a rest, scoped, etc. In my mind, there is no reason I cant get .5 in or less at 25yds. On the same day, same rest, same everything, 55gr FMJ Privi Partisan factory ammo produces 5 shots touching each other.

With that said, is this what people talk about when saying these projectiles aren't very accurate? I'm not looking for match quality, but I would expect them to perform moa or at least close at 100yds and closer. These groups would have been around 4-5 moa.

If I cant make these work well, I will sell them and buy some Hornaday 55gr FMJ,

Shoot them at 100yds. Unless there's something wrong with them, you should get 3moa or better. IME, they don't shoot as well as hornady 55fmj.

I find that ss109 bullets are not inherently accurate. I really like using Hornady HPBT bullets in 5.56x45mm. I get my best accuracy from a 75gr HPBT bullets. My last load I used power pro 2000mr. I think you'll have better accuracy with a heavier bullet.

MtnCreek, I wondered if more distance would allow more time for stabilization. Is that basically what you are saying?

Since these wer just test rounds, I only had a few and didn't shoot any farther than 25yds.

I have one AR that really like SS109 but it's a 1/9 twist. In my 1/8 twist AR, 75 gr black hills ammo that gives me three holes touching from a rest with no wind if I do my part.
