All,
I am considering getting a stag arms model 3 from my local gun shop. It is priced at 895 new. Anyone have a stag model 3? Pros/cons?

Thanks

I started a thread that is toward the bottom of the page called at newbies. This was exactly the people I was trying to help. I tried to list some of the differences between brands and a close price range just for quick reference so you can see what you are getting. Stags are good but why not get a colt 6920 for 50 dollars more. I was hoping that I could help people like you be able to go down the spec list of the manufacturer and know if your getting quality for your money or if you should spend a little more. The materials and manufacturing including qc make a big difference down the road. You may be new now but once you get out there and start shooting you'll probably wish then that you had spent a little more.

G.Barnes - that info does not really help me. I am looking for first hand opinions of the stag model 3 based on actual knowledge by first hand use, but thanks for the info it is an interesting thread.

I have a Stag Model 4 and it is good. The charging handle is a little fragile and I upgraded that. Very solid gun. Two friends have model 3s I believe...and one of those guys shoots 3-gun...lots and lots of rounds. He is happy with it.

Stag makes a good AR. Best is a rather subjective thing. I chose Stag based on first hand experience with friends, the availability of the Model 4 which is the M16A2 style 20" barrel, fixed stock model, because of good LGS is a Stag dealer and has stock handy, and for the reasonable price.

I have never seen a Colt's for less than $1200 around here. While I am sure folks are not lying, there seems to be this idea that there are $900 Colts to be found...haven't seen it. Same folks who talk about the $600 lower end ARs and the nice, inexpensive old revolvers...don't see them.

You will be happy with Stag I'd expect.

i had a model 2 it ran with no problems. if you can find one used in the 700 to 750 range than its a good deal. look at palmetto state armory for a good deal. the thing is to buying one is list all the rifles in your price range which is 900 dollars and go through the spec sheets and compare the materials and testing and see what the best rifle in your range is.

Model 3 works fine. My son has one shoots XM855 ammo under an inch @ 100yrds.

The Stag is a fine weapon. I have had Stag, RRA, LMT and Colt. The mil-spec guns did nothing special compared to the others. It is a whole lot about nothing that matters to the casual shooter. Actually the RRA is the most accurate while still being uber reliable. If I were doing it for a living or running in classes four times a year then I would maybe recommend the Colt over others. If it is a M4gery then you gain nothing tangible with the $3,000 Noveske besides saying you have one IMHO.

Saying why buy a $800 Stag when you can get a $1000 Colt makes as much sense as saying why buy a Howa for $400 when you can get a Remington for $600....because that is what they want/can afford. :banghead:

I have a model 2 that is NY compliant. It was cheeper than the Colt and was chambered for 5.56 not .223. The stag also had a shorter barrel and thats what I wanted.

I have a few thousand rounds through mine. All bulk ammo, I clean it every 500 rounds or so, works great for what the AR platform is.

the colt is only 50 more not 200 both come with a 16 inch barrel and carbine gas system. and all colts are a 5.56 chamber

OK I looked it up, the NY compliant model TE6700 has a barrel labeled .223, where the others say 5.56

they say that on the spec sheets but everyone ive seen had 556 on the barrel. although you also mentioned a longer barrel which might have been a target match colt which is a 223 chamber but is not the same rifle as the m4 6920 im talking about.

Well I picked up the Stag Model 3 and I have to say it is pretty nice. It has Diamond head Rail that is flat with the receiver and has a rail running down the top. Got some magpul flip up sights and a red dot for it. I am waiting on the other rails I ordered from Diamond Head so I can get it configured how I like it. It is 5.56 chamber so you can use either that or 223 ammo. Nice handling gun so far, but I will let you know what it really can do when i can get to the range again.

g and r tactical usually has them ive seen them on cheaper than dirt. supplies usually come and go so you have to frequently check. i see a lot of them used. remember the sporter and le model are the same other than rollmark. there is a shop near me with a colt 6940 with trijicon acog for 2400 and thats a 1200 dollar acog. I live in a small town with 2 gun shops. 2 months ago i bought a ddm4v5. it comes with a 12 inch free float rail ($250) a magpul moe stock ($60) magpul enhanched trigger guard ($20) and dd vertical grip ($45). I paid 1280 before tax. 1280 minus 375 is 905 a ddm4xv (dd meaning daniel defense) for about 950 with magpul stock and trigger guard. With tax time supplies are low but they will be back in stock at many places soon. buy seperate upper and lower recievers if you have to.

So, he could buy the STAG now for $895. Or he could spend hours and possibly days weeks and months looking and waiting for a Colt to come in stock at $945.

Maybe he would rather buy the STAG now and forgo the hassle of tracking down a Colt for under $1000. That's probably why he is asking for opinions on the STAG, instead of "what should I buy instead of the STAG". Seems to me that STAG has gotten plenty of good reviews on this site.

G.barnes - why are you pushing the colt 6920 do you own one?

+1 HOOfan 1 - I wish someone (cough Gbarnes cough) would stop highjacking the tread to make it a colt 6920 thread so I can get some people with Stag Model 3 to give the benefit of their experience.

I live in DE and we have two gun or three gun stores in the county and i have to pick from whats offered unless i want to deal with hassles associated with tracking down something else and getting transfers done - plus that adds to cost. The only other things they have in stock were DPMS offerings that did not meet my needs of configuration, and a bunch of 22 ar's which I am not interested in at this time, so the Stag Model 3 is the best option I have locally.

stag is good and i understand not wanting to wait. some people don't realize that colts and such can be had for a good price. some people don't mind waiting just like to make sure people have the info to make a decision they will be happy with long term and not just for 6 months.

you sure aint going to find a colt for 945 in this neck of the woods. Add 200 to that price and it would be more realistic.

I'm a Stag model 3 owner, excellent quality, accurate, groups between .500 to .900 using my reloads, after several hundred rounds no problems would not hesitate to buy another Stag and the new 3 gun model is catching my eye.:D

G.barnes - do you have a Stag Model 3? If not please stop posting. I know you think colt 6920 is better, but as I have tried to point out I DON'T CARE about the Colt 6920 so stop posting about it!

This thread is supposed to be about the STAG MODEL 3 if you don't have any experience with it DON'T POST!

I have a Stag because I wanted a left handed rifle. I don't run thousands and thousands of rounds through mine. I take it to the range, put about 8 mags through it and move on to the other guns I brought.

It's eaten anything I've fed it. It has never hiccuped once. I like the feel of the gun. It's a fun shooter. I don't think I'll ever shoot it enough to wear it out.

I have a Model 3 and am quite happy with it. Although I've changed quite a few things on it to bring it to more of my liking I would buy another one if I was in the market for one. The things that I changed was upgraded extractor spring w/ "o" ring, MI 4-rail forearm, Magpul CTR butt stock, "H" buffer, Magpul Ergo pistol grip, Magpul winter trigger guard, Phantom flash suppressor and Yankee Hill flip up sights. The only reason I went to the upgraded extractor I had an occasional failure to extract with Wolf ammo and since the change it will work with any ammo I feed it.
