I am about to trade a 1911 for a rifle. I don't know much about rifles. I want one for target practice. I don't hunt.

Which is a better brand for reliability?

Im no professional when it comes to these but I have done studyitg on them and the Rock River seems to get good reports on reliability. It also seems to have a manufacturing process that allows both NATO 5.56 and standard .223 to be fed well even with mixed clips.

I have an article regarding theses rifles I will try to find, because I too have been looking and reading in order to replace an AR I had in the past. I also had a DPMS LR .308 ... I wish I had NOT let the DPMS go, but hind sight is always 20/20

Any way good luck shopping!

The reason I am choosing these two is because this is what one guy is offering.

I have too many handguns and I would like a rifle and a shotgun.

Both are pretty much equal. I have a stag and it's awesome, but people love their RRA. Pick both up, play with both, dry fire, see what trigger you like the best and what feels best over all. Then get that one. Esp if it's only for plinking.

You should expect either rifle to shoot with perfect reliability... now you may have a problem with a magazine or ammo, which is more likely if you skimp on either, but the likehood of a gun problem leading to malfunction is pretty darn remote untill you put many miles on it.

both are great target rifles. very accurate.

each brand has certain models that are more accurate than others. it would help to know which specific models we are deciding between.

RRA's guarantee 1 MOA, so I'd choose that one for a range-rifle. Reliability should be equal.

To expand on this a little, the models would really help. If I had the choice, I would go with a flat top (if one has a non removable carry handle). If you ever want to put optics on it, you can do it on a carry handle but it's not the same and no co-witness.

Just a little more food for thought.

I ended up choosing the Rock River AR-15 with a Heavy Stainless Barrel.

I don't know Stag Arms; however, I have heard one company makes both.

You really couldn't have made a bad choice between the 2. I own Stag and love it. My favorite dealer did not have any RR on the shelf so for me it came down to Stag or BM. It is very hard to find bad reviews of stag or RR rifles. Enjoy it, it will serve you well!
