For the last couple of days I've been putting together the S&W pages for my website, which means adding photos of every gun in their line. I was really surprised that the only blued revolver was the Model 10.

I've had my blued 586 for well over 20 years, and never really paid much attention to what the company was doing with their line. When did they stop making blued revolvers and why?

Stainless guns from other manufacturers are fine, but to me a S&W should be blued.

S&W recently started making blued revolvers in the Heritage series and now the 29-8. Making a nice looking blued firearm takes a lot of work and that work cannot be done by machine. It takes a skilled craftsman to expertly polish and blue a firearm. Stainless requires a surface finishing, then it is ready to go.

They also currently make the blued 36LS.

The Heritage Series and the 29 Mountain Gun are discontinued, but rumour has it that there will be a blued "four screw" 25 Mountain Gun this year.

Swell. I spend two days creating pages for S&W handguns, only to find out that I'll have to soon spend two more days updating the pages for new models. ;)

Thanks much for the updates.

S&W only produces twp blued revolvers at present. The M10 is offered as a private security and export low bid revolver on contract. You can buy one. Can you find one? The LadySmith M36 J frame is offered because some women (and men) simply like basic black. (blue) The LadySmith also looks pretty in blue with factory laser art. IIRC, the Mountain Guns were/are frames that were left but, not color case hardened by Turnbull from the Heritage Series fiasco. S&W should have blued all of their HS revolvers. That would have helped to sell more. Those rounded butts didn't help either. S&W needs to hire a market research firm. Yesterday.

I'm not a big fan of S&W, but this amazes me. How can you not have blue? It's nuts! From my experience those who prefer stainless are a distinct minority among revolver shooters. Did some bright boy at Smith decide that blue was out of date or something?
