I'm after a few data points from actual chrono tests of 9mm from those of us on the board. What velocities are you getting with factory 9mm ammos from 4 to 4.5-inch barrels? Heck, for your handloads too!

Trying to compare, you see. I have two loads using Hornady 115-gr XTPs that show equal accuracy--at 100 fps difference! 5.2 231, WSP primers, Win brass and loaded to...ooops I forgot OAL. 1130 fps, just like Winchester 115-gr Silvertips out of the same barrel, all at about 75° F. and screen distance of about 9 feet. 4.4 inch barrel.

So, whatchooguysgettin?

I have been chronographing a number of 9mm factory and reloads recently. Unfortunately, they were in a 5" Springfield. If you are interested, say so and I will enter some tomorrow.

The last 115 load that I clocked was 6.6 gr Power Pistol at 1204 FPS. Factory loads have been from just below 1100 to over 1300 for some Cor-Bons.

Thanks to both so far! :)

Jim W.--yes, I'm actually interested in anything from 3.9 to 5 inches in the barrel department. Just need to have the length WITH the velocities. Thanks.

Lately I've been using 5.8gr Unique with 115gr Berry's plated RN @1.130" and Winchester primers. My 92FS (4.9" barrel) averages 1205 FPS, and 1405 FPS out of my Storm (16.6" barrel). The Storm gives me 2" groups at 100'.

I consider the load to be med-warm, and the brass last forever. Best of all it’s cheep ;)

OK, here are some factory load velocities.
Springfield Loaded 5" factory barrel
Olympic 124 gr FMJ = 1084 fps
Sellier & Belot 115 gr FMJ = 1138 fps
Blazer 115 gr FMJ = 1174 fps
WWB 115 gr FMJ = 1183 fps
WW Value Pack 115 gr FMJ = 1169 fps
Winclean 115 gr SP = 1108 fps

Franken9 4.5" Kart barrel
Sellier & Belot 115 gr FMJ = 1180 fps
S&B 115 gr FMJ (previous batch) = 1128 fps
Blazer 115 gr FMJ = 1198 fps
Master 115 gr JHP = 1221 fps

CZ-75 4.5" factory barrel
S&B 115 gr FMJ (previous batch) = 1111 fps
Wolf 115 gr FMJ = 1107 fps

Franken9 4.5" Jarvis barrel
S&B (previous batch) = 1132 fps
Wolf 115 gr FMj = 1159 fps
Federal 9BP 115 gr JHP = 1183 fps
Cor Bon 115 gr JHP = 1299 fps

Get the picture?
Most all the econo-ball runs from 1100-1200 fps, as does the standard velocity Federal 9BP hollowpoint. Cor Bon is much faster, as you would expect. The Master brand surprised me, that stuff was hot for a commercial reload product. This was some years old, from an estate sale, don't know what they are doing now.

I normally adjust 115-124 grain handloads to standard speed factory equivalent.
These days I am mostly loading 147 grain subsonics because they have less felt recoil, even with the same power factor. For whatever reason a 147 gr @ 900 fps is softer to shoot than a 115 gr @ 1150 fps.

Here is some data that I obtained from my Shooting Chrony set 10 feet from the muzzle of my S&W model 439 (4 inch barrel) and my TZ-75 Series 88 (4.625 inch barrel).

Ammo.............S&W 439..............TZ-75 Series 88

Win USA
115 FMJ..........1167...................1182

Fed American Eagle
115 FMJ..........1133...................1137

Fed American Eagle
124 FMJ..........1103...................1109

Fed 9BP
115 JHP...........1119...................1120

Rem +P
115 JHP...........1250...................1258

Thanks, Stans. 1250 with regular +P Remingtons, 115-gr and a 4.0 inch barrel ain't bad!

Anyone else have +P factory or reloading data?

A second string was similar. This surprised me because Titegroup usually gives very small extreme spreads.

5. Federal Amercan Eagle 124 FMJ
AE9AP

Low: 1081
High: 1117
Av. 1098
ES. 36
SD 12.5

I also have data for Wst Coast and Berry's plated bullets if you like.

A few more if you are still interested. All are from a Glock 17 with a 4.5 inch barrel.
Handloads:
4.45 grains Titegroup, 115 grain Remington HP, 1151 FPS
8.5 grains AA #7, 115 grain TnT FMJ, 1090 FPS

Factory:
CCI Blazer 124 grain Gold Dot HP, 1119 FPS
Geogia Arms 115 grain Gold Dot HP +P, 1235 FPS

This was the first time I had clocked a Titegroup load and like 8ring expected, it had a very low extreme spread. I'll load some more of that one.
