Both look great but I think the originals look better with the Stainless finish on "that" revolver. I would love to see the "ivory" grips on a Blue revolver.

Either one really looks sharp and I know a lot of folks love the ivory but the laminate would be my personal choice. Maybe you could sorta change 'em back and forth from week to week:)

I really don't care much for ivory until it ages and gets some character. Actually, I prefer stag. Got a set of Sanbar stags on a Blackhawk I like a lot. When ivory ages, it starts to get a little color to it. I do like aged ivory. Actually, I've noticed my stags are starting to age like that a bit, too.

Never cared for the ivory look on anything. I do however really like the laminates. My Acusport shooter wears a set of them as does two other Acusports here, another Bisley and a few other Ruger single action.

I guess it depends on the occasion.

Is this for formal carry, or are you leaving the tux in the closet that evening and going casual? In the former case the ivory is fine. In the latter case the ivory is a bit over done.

Seriously, what are doing with the pistol? If you are carrying it as a backup while hunting the white grips tend to stand our like a white-tail's tail. It's a warning that can certainly put the lie to your camo suit. If you're just going to the range, the wood might be less slick on a hot day when your palms get a little sweaty. Ivory grips aren't my bag, though I am a big fan of General Patton.

Ivory. Go with the ivory. To really make it "click" - get some old medallions from Numrich's or a gun show, and inlet the ivory a little with a forstner bit and mount them. That would look great and really "tie" the grips to the gun.

I don't like the wood because they scream "cheap" - laminate wood just isn't real wood to the discerning eye. I think ivory, real or fake, can look great with either stainless or blue. I DO like the look of that Blackhawk with those fake ivory grips.

A tip - I fit some fake ivory grips to s S&W 19 recently. I did some shaping to them to get them just perfect on the frame edges. When I was done, I wiped them down with 3-in-1 oil and a little soaked in, bringing out some texture and making them look more "aged" instantly. Try that if you like. I also got some medallions and will be installing them, too.

Between the two, I like the ivory, though like others have posted, I think the right medallions would set them off perfectly.

I have no preference in appearance.
Fake wood, fake ivory. Whatever.

Real ivory isn't for looks, it's for function.
It sticks to moist hands, so it doesn't slide around when you're nervous.
I don't care for real ivory on SA's. It changes the recoil cycle and makes the hammer harder to reach with your thumb.
Ivory comes into its own on autos and DA's.
I use mammoth ivory. My sister's teaching me how to work the stuff.

Boots,
Your two choices: I voted for the ivory; just makes it a little more personal.
Who makes that stout little knife?

MCgunner,
Nice piece; do you have any other photos of it posted anywhere?

Regards,
Greg

Who makes that stout little knife?

it is called a fatty game warden and they are made by busse combat knives...

it is indeed a stout little knife...7 inches overall, cutting edege is 2.5"

and it is .270" in thickness!!!

due to its extreme thickness, i had my doubts about how sharp it would be....well, it's sharp enough to shave hair...lifetime warranty and it is made of a proprietery steel called infi....it is a very hard steel, but doesn't chip out...it is not a stainless steel, but is very resistant to corrosion...one of the best knife steels i have ever owned or used...

only downside is price...i paid $250 for that little bugger and it came with a nice kydex sheath...

I've never really liked the pure white look of unaged ivory and since your ivory is fake, it's not going to age. Even fake wood looks better than fake ivory, IMO.
