My father gave me a star 9mm 1911 style pistol but without a mag so I go to the gunshow and I had about a dozen people offer to buy it, is there anything special about this pistol? it is a BM series if I decide to sell it how much should I ask for it?

Star BM's were pretty popular a few years ago. A bunch of them must've been imported all at once or something.

They're all-steel 9mm's that (as you pointed out) resemble a 1911 in form and function, and usually cost a lot less. They're fun to shoot, too. A little heavy to lug around, but pretty good pistols overall.

About five years ago, $200-225 was a good price, but I think it's gone up since then. Might want to check Gunbroker, AuctionArms, and Gunsamerica to see what people are getting for them (remember to adjust for shipping & transfer fees).

Mags can be expensive, so you'd have to discount for the fact that you don't have one.

I don't know that there is anything special about the BM per se. I know it had a decent production life. I've got one and it is by far one of my favorite pistols.

As for value - I bought mine about 3 years ago and paid $180 out the door including transfer, tax and all. I think they even threw in a box of ammo. Things have certainly changed since then. I watched a pristine one sell on GB the other week for $220 - of course they'll have shipping and transfer on top of that.

I've seen several listed on GB for $299 and other ridiculous prices. They don't sell either.

Mags can definitely be expensive. I've seen them for $50 and on up. I found a guy at a gun show not long ago that had a stack of them. $35 bought one - I still felt that was high for a mag but I bought one anyway. Doesn't eject as well as the one that came from the gun.

If you decide to sell, send me a PM. A buddy of mine has been itching for one since I let him shoot a box through mine.

I think you could get $250 for it, maybe $225-$230 without a magazine.

I bought one two years ago with 2 magazines and box for $225. I totally love it, by the way -- it's the only SA semiauto I own and I think it's fantastic.

Knowledgeable folks. Helped me a lot when I was fooling with my Star B. They can narrow a price for you and direct you to mags. I have been successful in finding any parts needed for my pistol. Firing pins will break if you dry fire without a snap cap. The bm has a good rep.. My b has been unreliable, still like the gun, I'll work out the kinks someday.

When I got mine a few years back, they were being sold out of a crate for $150 each and $15 for mags at our local gun show in West Palm. Very reliable, built like a tank, but a little heavy for carry. Mine:
