Star B Super or FEG Hi-Power? Which of them should I get?

For myself, it would be the FEG hands down. Of course, it depends on the FEG model. Not all FEG's are built the same way. Some have the innards similar to the Browning Hi Power, while others have the innards similar to a S&W 5906.

Absolutely the FEG, I have a KBI PJK 9 HP they were imported by different people with different names but that is the one I would look for.

FEG it is. I purchased a fairly beat up $178 FEG Hi-Power on Gunbroker last night. Guy has a lot of other cheap pistols for sale too; a lot of FEGs and Stars as well as Berettas and others. I hope it's not against the rules to paste the link here, I dunno the guy so I'm not trying to promote sales for him or anything, just liked the fact he had a lot of inexpensive handguns for sale and was surprised they didn't seem to be flying away. FEG has had some serious QC issues over the years. Buying a used one of uncertain provenance can lead to disappointment.

I own a 1947 Star B Super. Also a Star BM. Both have been outstanding performers in the accuracy, reliability, and durability sectors. The ARE heavy, as they are all steel. 9mm ammo has very little recoil in them.

The Star Supers were the preferred issue sidearm of both South African and Rhodesian military forces.

Both are out of production. If you get the HP clone FEG, you can get by with HP parts in most cases. Finding parts for the Star may be a problem. Having said that, I would like a Star.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Cole's has a reputation for undergrading their pistols--i.e., you will likely be happy with what you get.

I have a FEG Hi Power, and it is one of my favorite pistols. Be prepared to remove the mag safety though--the safety gave mine one of the nastiest, metal-on-metal trigger pulls ever, but it takes only about a minute to remove.

Coles is a top shelf seller. I've bought two guns from him in the past few years and both have been better then expected.

He has a number of Belgian made FN Brownings on Gun Broker right now. Depending on condition, you can get an original HP for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

I gave $459 for mine in excellent condition... VZ grips were my upgrade.
