Anyone have one? A lady friend bought one of these a few weeks ago, the gun shop owner told her to use CCI standard velocity lead and to stay away from bulk ammo. I was wondering if this is necessary. I visited the Star-Firearms site and there are warnings about ammunition for other calibers, but none for the 22LR. Does anyone own one of these and what kind of Ammo do you use in yours? I use the 525 bulk box of Remington Golden Bullet Plated 22LR 36GR HP in my Mark II, cheap and reliable feeding for me. Her Star appears to be in fine condition, could use some new springs I am sure.

The entire model F series went out of production when Star fell on hard timesa and stopped making the gun in 1983. As such, parts are getting very hard to find if you break it.

I think the dealers advice about using standard velocity ammo is good.

No sense beating the crap out of it just to save a few cents on ammo.

That said, the Stars are well built, good quality guns, and regular use of bulk pack .22 ammo like Remington or Federal high-velocity hollow points isn't going to hurt it. If you use it at all, any gun will wear out, eventually, but .22s in general tend to last a good long time. You cannot, for example, stuff too-hot handloads in one. Try a variety of .22 ammo, and settle on the one that shoots and functions the best.
