Star Model 31P Assembly/Dissassembly

Hello, Friends!

I acquired a Star 31P in 9mm. It's a beastly-strong pistol... perhaps the strongest of the 9's. But I don't have the Instructions for it. I know Ruger posts instructions online, but I can't find anything like this for Star. I'm looking for the correct procedures for taking the pistol down for cleaning.

Can anyone help me?

I have one with nickel finish. Remove mag and rack slide to make sure pistol is unloaded. Cock the pistol. Lock the slide back. Push the take down lever from the right side as far as it will go. Release the slide and pull the lever the rest of the way out. To reassemble, put the slide back on the frame with the back of the slide in line with the back of the frame. Insert the lever as far as it will go. Then back the slide up as far as it will go. This will reveal a slot in the slide through which you can push the lever the rest of the way. I have no manual, this is based on experience. I just took the pistol out and disassembled it.

An amendment to the prior message. Since the slide is under tension when it is pushed back, hold the slide back with your hand as you release the takedown lever and push it part way out from the right. Of course you have to control the slide when it is compressing the recoil spring.

I shot my Star 31P today after giving it a long rest. I shot one mag of +P and it performed like a champ. I didn't check accuracy; I fired it while waiting for a chance to put up my target stand. Perhaps I will try some +P+ so I can blow out the barrel. Just joking!

Thank you for the good answers... these are surprisingly nice pistols, aren't they?

But I'll tell you what... when I got mine years ago, I read how it had earned a record for long-term serviceability that was beyond anything else. The pistol is fantastically strong, and I doubt that it could be harmed by anything short of intentional, determined abuse.

I have not really checked mine for accuracy either... will try that next and post what I find. And please let us know how yours shoots.

My Model 30, loves hot loads of AA#7, it gives great groups, at rest at 7 yards, 5 shots were just one ragged hole, good enough for me. About the only thing I did do to the gun, is to stone the rails, they were machined, but not smooth at all! Good luck finding extra factory mags, they are few and far between, since Star is out of business.

Well, I have three original 15 rounders. But I have too many guns and want to sell my Starvel (nickel finish) Model 31P and the three mags.
