I just bought a Star Modelo Super. It appears to be in great shape but the I find that actioning the slide requires considerable less force than say a 1911. Everything functions, the recoil spring appears to be correct and it strips the round and returns to battery with no problem. This is in 9mm Largo which I understand is very similar to the 38 Super in power. Anyone out there shoot one of these? I may just be being overly cautious but I don't want to eat the slide. Any comments appreciated.

The Modelo Super has a cam that unlocks, not a swinging link like the 1911. But you can look for a new recoil spring and see if the tension is greater.

You need to get a spare spring when you find them anyway, as the company is out of business and parts are when and where you find them.
Be aware that the firing pin may not be inertial: on many Stars, it will contact the primer of a round in the chamber and the gun may fire if dropped.

They're nice guns. Some parts are hard to get, but Wolf makes new recoil springs for them: http://www.gunsprings.com/Semi-Auto...SUPER, & VARIANTS 9mm LARGO/cID1/mID61/dID276

The 9mm Largo packs a punch, when loaded to its potential. CCI made, or is making, Blazer ammo with FMJ and Gold Dot Hollow Points, and Starline makes new brass for handloaders; regular 9mm Luger dies can be used for loading just by backing them out a couple if turns.

Maybe I am waxing nostalgic here, but I sure wish Star was still in business.
