Just got my NIB Star PD (24oz) and since I have a Colt Officers Model (34oz) I thought I'd compare the two at the range. Both pistols were 100% reliable with 200 grain lead SWC reloads. The Colt seems to have a slight edge in accuracy (1 inch ?) but the felt recoil of the Star PD although 10 oz lighter was the same or slightly less! Of course the Star has not been broken in yet but the Colt is. Targets were 9" paper plates fired at 50 feet rapid fire (under 10 seconds for 6 rounds). Guess I'll be looking for another Star!

Pics

This pic is typical of the 70 rounds I fired between the two pistols.

time will show you that the colt is better.
especially if you need to replace a part.

I don't believe even the most fanatical Star owner would dispute that a Colt is the better pistol of the two but at less than 1/2 the price of a used Colt and weighing only 24oz, the Star PD is considered a classic and an excellent CCW.

agreed.

i was referencing from your first post title star pd vs. colt officers.

My lightweight Colt Officers model is better than both:D but I LIKE Star PD's and they are about perfect for CCW!:)

I think it would be even more revealing to compare the Star PD with the Colt Officers ACP Lightweight version. I don't have the specs at hand, but I believe it also weighs in at 24 ounces. Possibly the slightly better performance of your Colt is in part due to the greater weight.

While I am a dyed-in-the-wool lover of Colt rotamatics, I wonder if the Star might shoot slightly better groups, simply because it allows for a more "complete" handhold than the OACP.

Only Star PD I ever owned was a result of an involved trade. I already had my OACP LW, or I would have probably kept the PD. I sold it to a friend of my son, and he has been well satisfied with it for several years.

Best,
Johnny

You could be right about comparing the Star against the lightweight Colt but I was more than pleased with the results I obtained. Scarce parts? As far as replacing the buffer in the PD 2000+ rds from now...I'll just use a rubber washer from my garden hose OR check to see if the Colt recoil spring and guide interchange with the Star, should be close. The last Star PD I had 15 years ago had over 1200 "hot" loads through it without any signs of wear. I just got bored with it and traded it off:rolleyes: Now that Ohio has CCW...it's a different story.
