I picked this C7 upper up last week for $45.
It's a little ugly, but have been giving some thought on building an AR from mostly used parts. Just a junker that I don't have to worry about what it looks like. One I can just throw in the truck without a case and not worry about a scratch or two getting on it each time I take it for a ride.

Now I need to start looking for some used parts.
I want to use a barrel with a front sight tower, but not sure which stock I will go with. Maybe something free or cheap.
Anyone have some extra used parts that they would like to get rid of?

Unfortunately, all of my extra parts have spawned other firearms. Best of luck to you, it looks like a great start to a fun project! :)

Ive got a spare bolt, stock grip or two, and a trigger guard. some other small parts still i think. nothing big like a stock tho...already gave away the barrel i had...might have a flash hider gotta look.

That thing looks like it sat in a burned out hummer in the desert for a while...like since desert storm. I like it.
My buddy dug it out of the mess that was his office at his house. When it flooded here in Louisiana his house took on about four feet of water. It was under water for three days and was found about a week later while cleaning out his house.

Dude, I'll send you a brand new Aero Precision assembled flat top and pay shipping both ways if you want to trade.
I already have four brand new flat top uppers, Aero, Bootleg and two Andersons. I also have enough new parts to build four rifles and two uppers.
I appreciate the offer.

PM me with what you want for the bolt.
I have about 20 new A2 grips and handguards, but not looking to use new parts. I also have a bunch of new A2 flash hiders.
I already have a used Strike Industries grip that I might use. I also have the rear take down from a M16A1.
Need the bolt catch, delta ring, charging handle, pivot pin, safety selector and mag release. I do have a castle nut from a rifle that I cleaned up for a friend. It was pretty buggered up but a hammer and file cleaned it up.
I'm thinking of getting a 80% lower for the build and have my buddy engrave something cool on it.

Already pm'd about the fSB, but just realized I have RH only safeties floating around too. I'm lefty so I upgraded to ambi off the bat. Might dig up a delta ring too... Give me a day or two...

If you're interested, I have a type E butt in decent shape, I'd let go for the cause. Because I love ratty beater rigs!

Edit:
Just dug around a bit, and found a serviceable but patina'd charging handle, too. A couple of early grips...

I do have someone sending me an A1 grip, but would love to get those other parts.

Gunny,

You kinda put me on the spot here.
We usually dont allow members to solicit, buy sell ot trade in the forums only in the trading post.

Since you are soliciting for donated junk parts I will allow it, but the minute money gets mentioned, or some geezer gets his draws in a bunch higher, higher will overide me and shut it down.

In a thread like this PM is your friend

I'm a little closer.

Been thinking about going with a 11.5 barrel and using a XM177 flashider.
If I can find a good used 16" carbine barrel, I can have it cut and threaded to 11.5.
I found a new 11.5 barrel but it's a heave barrel. Anyone knows how has some 11.5 barrels in stock that are not heavy.
I do have a 5.5" flashider that has the multiple holes, but I like the one with the slots.

Well I did better then finding just a used barrel, I found a complete used upper. The flashider is already pinned and welded.
The front sight tower is a little loose but not bad.
Here is is on the lower. I still need to finish a few things to finish up.

Any of them can be like that, its all a matter of how you look at it. Most stuff I use gets a bit patina'ed before long. Sort of like getting past the part of worrying about driving your vehicle through the first mesquite or catclaw thicket.

I like the beater a1 look, way to put some old parts back in service. Wish I could get ahold of an a1 upper casting... And to think,we used to throw them away... Oh well.

So, the upper that started this is still waiting to be built?

I was able to work on the build today.
I bought the complete upper from a guy on another forum. He had bought a carbine and was going to use the lower for another build.
Other then it being a little dirty, smelling like cigarette soak and having some pet fur under the handguards, it looked ok. I found that the barrel was a little loose. The rear sight had a knob to adjust and it had a round forward assist.
So I removed the barrel and cleaned everything up. I put the barrel on the upper I already had and finished building the lower. Everything went together pretty easy.
I'm not sure if I will have time to shoot it this weekend so, I may end up bringing it to work to shoot it on Monday.
I will try and get some pics tomorrow.

The object of this build was to use as many used parts as I could. The only new parts on the gun are, the lower, detente springs and detentes and one front sight tapered pins. I have a total of $345 tied up in the build.
I did tread two thirty round Troy Battle mags for two twenty round GI mags.

Twenty rd mags are so much nicer than the 30s, especially for accuracy work. Less weight and a lot less of a protrusion from the bottom to get in the way of most good stable rests. 20 is my preference. I need some of those 20rd metal mags....Christmas and birthday are not far off...

Well here it is. I'm happy with the way it turned out. I would have to say that this build was a lot of fun.

I would like to say thank you to everyone that helped out with this build.

I just finished my own version of a junkyard build. I had sent off my form1 for a SBR to the ATF back in the early part of March and basically forgot about it until a week ago when the approved form1 showed up in the mail. I had been waiting to buy the barrel and other parts I was going to put on it until the stamp was in my hand so all I had was a stripped lower. With all the election hoopla, it seems that everybody is out of various bits and pieces that I wanted to use. I did manage to find a barrel for a reasonable price but the rest of the stuff was out of stock.

So, I just went and threw it together with what I had on hand. The lower and barrel are the only new parts in this thing with the rest of it being used stuff that I had laying around. The can is a AAC M4-2000 that I had been running on my M4, but I think it is going to stay on this little carbine.

Parts list:
Lower PSA
Upper, used C7 I had in the parts box.
Fire control group is mostly used GI including all the springs
Stock and handguards are from a 607 project that I started two years ago
Front sight base is a used Colt unit that was given to me a while back
Bolt and carrier are unmarked and I have no clue as to where I got them
Flat delta ring is another part that I can't remember where it came from as is the buffer and spring.

No matter what kind of mutt this is, it runs like a champ and so far has happily digested all types of brass and steel case ammo I have tried in it.

I notice that it is still oozing oil from the clean and lube I did on it yesterday.

Nice work guys! I dont usually like retro styled guns, but the well worn appearance and retro parts on Gunnys look great. The stubby gun with the triangle handguards is another look i really like...i may have to build one of these, ya know to celebrate and all.
