I'm trying to update a list, that was posted back in 2005.

Idaho ISP have a choice .40 S&w or .45 auto - glock in either case
 
Mebbe somebody from NC will chime in, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (one of Ayoob's columns?) that NC was going to the M&P, but don't remember what caliber was stated. I'm sure it was either 40 or 357 SIG?

I just tried a little Google search and came up with 5,000 M&Ps bought by NC Dept of Corrections, but that may or may not mean NC State Police? I was thinking the article I read said the NC State Police were transitioning from the SIG to the M&P?

I know this really helps...:D

EDIT: After refining my Google search, it appears NC Highway Patrol IS going to the M&P 357 SIG.
Nothing official yet, but I've read multiple posts on various forums which state such.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has purchased 2,000 Smith & Wesson M&P357 polymer pistols chambered in .357SIG. The new duty sidearm will replace non-Smith & Wesson pistols that were previously issued by the department. The M&P pistol's reliability, ambidextrous operating controls and three interchangeable palm swell grip sizes were noted by officials within the agency as key reasons for the selection of the new duty sidearm. The North Carolina Highway Patrol added that the polymer pistol's accuracy, reliability during testing and ability to disassemble the firearm without pressing the trigger were all primary factors in their decision-making process.

Colonel Randy Glover, Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said, "The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is confident that the M&P357 will prove to be a reliable service weapon for our officers."

I can't find anything to affirmatively back this up, but I don't believe the SC Highway Patrol has changed from the Glock 22 since they adopted it in 1993. Their history website doesn't mention a change after that (although I'm not sure how often that site is updated).

Cool deal. I will have to catch back up with a couple of my SCHP buddies to find out about that.
 
Ala Dan, You must have never shot a 45 GAP. The ballistics are equal to the 45 ACP, but it's coming out of a gun that is sized for normal people's hands. They are actually very good rounds.
 
The ballistics equal standard pressure .45 ACP. .45 GAP is weaker than +P .45 ACP and can't reach that level because the round can't hold any more powder. It's the same idea why you never see +P .40 S&W.
 
If it is really true then that means that there will probbly be tons of nice sig cpos to hit the market somewhere in the near future. I could be wrong but I heard they currently used the 229's in .40. Hey wifey can I please have just one more??
 
Federal Air Marshals are supposed to be switching to the Sig P250 in .357 Sig, and that means there should be some used P229s in .357 Sig hitting the used market.

I am just sad that no State LEOs are shooting 10mm anymore. I think Kentucky and Virginia were the last ones but switched :(.

I didn't keep up on this, but late last year it was announced that WA state patrol (WSP) and the dept of corrections (WSDOC) both adopted the M&P 40.

Dunno where they're at in the transition process, though.

It's not uncommon for changes in service weapons to occur quietly, since it's often treated as just another change in safety equipment.
 
NC Highway Patrol is in the process of switching. Most of the troopers in the county I work in are now carrying the M&P 357, but at least one (who I saw at the magistrate's office last week) is still carrying a SIG 229 .357 SIG DAK. FFIW, the NCSHP never carried the SIG 226 in any format, they went from revolvers to the Beretta 92, then Beretta 96, then Beretta 8357 Cougar, then the SIG 229 DAK, and now the M&P 357.

The State Department of Correction, both Prisons and Probation & Parole transitioned from revolvers (4" 64 for Prisons, 3" 65 for P&P) to the M&P40 in mid to late 2006.

No.
Glock does offer trade in credit. Trade in old department issue gun and get $$$ in credit towards new gun. But, they do that for all of their guns in any caliber. SIG also offers this service.
I believe NYSP ended paying around $400 per gun with 6 mags.

I do know that FHP let their officers decide and they chose the Glock 37Gen4 over the Glock 21SF and S&W M&P45. Said the Glock 37Gen4 was easier to handle, had less felt recoil and was more accurate.
 
I heard PA got a great deal on the Glocks they switched over to. IMO it's not a bad thing to go from a .40 S&W to .45 GAP. Only bad thing, I haven't seen any of their old Beretta 96's on the market yet... lol
 
Update on New Jersey State Police:

NJ State Police Troopers are now Issued the Sig Sauer P226R .40 S&W after Sig Sauer discontuned the P228 and introduced the P229. I am not positive but I think they also have the option of carrying P229R for small handed officers. I saw that you wanted an update-my apologies if you are annoyed.
 
TN went to 40 cal Glocks so all state LEOs carry the same gun and ammo. In a crunch they can share mags or ammo.
 
You have to admit that Maine State Police carrying the USP45 is undeniably cool.

Wyoming Highway Patrol now issues the M&P40. Arizona DPS issues the Glock 22. AZ wasn't even on the original list. We hadn't completed our 100-year probationary period yet.
