Ya gotta love it! A local state college's training institute has "Handgun Safety", "Home Firearm Safety" and "Refuse to Be a Victim" courses in their Personal Development program right along with the Cha Cha dance and Colonial Cookery courses. :D

I know the instructor and he'd fit right in here.

Refuse to Be a Victim
Refuse To Be A Victim is designed to offer men and women a variety of options from which they can choose to prepare their own crime prevention and personal safety strategies. This NRA program began in 1993 and continues to lead the way in personal safety instruction in the United States. It is embraced by the law enforcement community and by educators, as a positive tool in teaching personal safety awareness to many segments of the community. The seminar covers how you can enhance your personal security at home, in your automobile, when traveling, when using the telephone and internet, and to prevent fraud, by offering a broad overview of actions both men and women can take to minimize their chances of being victimized. The instructor is an NRA certified Training Counselor & Firearm Instructor and a Tennessee certified Handgun Safety Instructor. $6 material fee payable to instructor.

thats cool. what id like to see is having gunsmiths classes. that would be the best thing ever. Seeing them in community classes and colleges

Good idea even though the campus library and main entrances to building have the "unlawful to carry any weapons on campus" signs everywhere.

I won't down play that is truly a good thing.

One of our members lives near Tennessee Tech in Cookville and reports that TT still teaches pistol as a PE.

I used to work at a small college in Utah and the chief of campus police held the CCW classes on campus.

It's a state facility and it's a state funded college, but the instructors are paid from the fees and the TCC takes a cut. So, while it is partially supported by tax dollars, it isn't completely.

Regardless, they put it up on their website and the publish it in their paper catalog and they host the courses so that's plenty good enough to make me happy.

I work with TAOGART gunsmith apprenticeship program one of the things we do is contact the local community collage that the apprentice is near and get them to include the apprenticeship programs requirements into their classes, We have yet to have one say no, most of the instructors are more then willing to make accommodations as long as the student gets the same training.
