One of my friends from work goes to Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He forwarded this to me, I was pretty surprised and impressed that they would do this.

BGSU offers concealed gun safety classes. The Ohio Concealed Carry Law goes into effect April 8. Ohio residents must obtain a permit to carry a weapon. Continuing & Extended Education is offering the 12 hours of required training in convenient evening classes taught b NRA/OPOTA Certified Instructors. The 10-hour classroom portion will cover safe handling and storage, safe ammunition handling, shooting techniques and laws relating to deadly force. Participants will then complete the two-hour range time requirement. Upon successful completion of written and live fire tests, participants will receive the required State of Ohio pamphlet and a certificate allowing them to apply for a permit. BGSU's Concealed Carry Classes meet twice a week for two weeks from 6- 8:30 p.m. Currently scheduled classes: Mondays and Wednesdays, April 19, 21, 26 and 28 Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 4, 6, 11 and 13 Monday and Wednesdays, May 17, 19, 24 and 26. Range time will be scheduled separately. The fee for the class is $149. A special introductory 10 percent discount is being offered to the BGSU community when registering for one of the three currently scheduled classes. To register for classes, call 2-8181 or toll-free 1- 877-650-8165; ask for ext #3622. You must be 21 to apply for a permit and no concealed weapons are permitted on the BGSU campus.

A nice start. Having the classes but why not allow CCWs? The crap that goes on at a UNiv. campus is bad. Rapes/assults/theft/beatings/etc.

I took my written test at a state community college when I lived in IA. I am suprised to see a Univ offering a CCW class. Do they have criminal justice program?? I wonder why they are doing this??

BG is a city of 30k, half of which is students at BGSU. It's surrounded by farm upon farm (makes for a real scenic drive to work:rolleyes: lol) so I think the feeling towards guns around here isn't very negative due to the semi-rural atmosphere.

Because many of our distinguished Senators as well as our Govenor didn't want the CCW law, but knew it was too popular to completely oppose. Therefore they made the law as useless as possible, as well as making relatively minor infractions to the poorly written and vague restrictions felonies.

After the law causes crime to go down and people become less afraid of the unknown, there are a number of us who are going to do out best to make sure their poisonous ammendments to the law come back to haunt them come election time.
