Thr resurrected thread on the ruger American's great accuracy with steel case ammo has again piqued my interest.

I have read several reports that this ruger in x39 can accomplish about 1moa with steel case ammo.

All reports I have heard, read, or experienced seem to indicate that steel case 223/556 is 3moa on average irrespective of the rifle. Once in a blue moon 1.5-2moa.

So the question.

Is the ruger american in x39 just that accurate?
Is steel case x39 ammo more consistent than 223/556?

Is the american in 556 as accurate with steel case as the x39 version?

Assuming a decently straight case, the barrel, bullet, and action will have a great deal more to do with it than the bullet holder.

I have no problems with wolf wpa in either 7.62x39 or 223. I get around a inch and 1.25 with my Ruger American Ranch bolt with it and with the 7.62x39 in both my PSA AR and my CZ 427 consistently.

My experience shooting literally tons of the stuff )5.56, 7.62x39, .308) is its solid 2 moa ammo (like virtually all milsurp ammo). Some guns will do beter, some will do worse, but the AK usually makes it look worse than it is

Is anyone getting 1 moa with any milsurp ammo? I never have. What impresses me the most about milsurp ammo is how consistent it is across manufacturers and years Out to 300 yards I rarely have to change POA/POI across different years or countries of milspec surplus 7.62 Nato.

For 9mm steel cased, tests like done by the "Box of Truth" rate it the best of the cheap (Win White Box, American Eagle, Blazer) if you believe 5 shot groups are really telling you anything.

The hornady stuff is good domestically produced ammo that us in a steel case.

I was curious about the Russianamd com block stuff

Ok, yea, don't know. I was answering the part about can steel case ammo be accurate. Yes it can. My bad. I have seen some reports where some of it could shoot quite well in a CZ carbine. May have been @armoredman

I have 2 ruger Americans. The 1st one bought over 4 years ago in 223. Had some issues but ruger took care of them... Steel cased ammo (if you could get it to feed) gave less than acceptable accuracy. Downright poor. This rifle has proved to be somewhat finicky. With the right hand load it shoots lights out.

The 7.62x39 is a recent addition. It only has 120 rounds on it and only cheap monarch steel cased. Here are 300 yard groups from both. Note the 223 was with 2 different loads and all but one 8 ring hole were sighter rounds.

Here is a 20 round group from the 7.62x39 from 100 yards a week earlier 20180903_204551.jpg
