I have not posted in a while and am feeling lazy. Does anyone have a list of available 9mm 1911's that are steel framed in the commander or CCO configuration?

It really depends on what you want to spend. I know for a fact, however, that the Wilson Combat Compact 1911s (X-Tac and CQB) can be had all steel in 9mm, also available in that configuration in all steel is the Nighthawk Custom T3, and the Les Baer Stinger. Here's the "I gotcha", these are all guns that come in at over $2,000. In the more reasonably priced range, you're going to looking at a lightweight alloy frame.

You don't have to go the semi-custom route to get a steel-framed 9mm Commander - you can buy a Colt O4610 right off the shelf. There's also STI; there may be others. CCOs I don't know about.

A lot of the commander and CCO size 9mm models seem to be going toward an alloy frame and not a steel frame. You can get a Rock Island commander in all steel in 9mm and the American Classic that someone else has already mentioned. But other than those two, I can't think of anyone else that makes an all-steel model. All the ones coming to my mind are alloy frame.

Well, the original Commander, back in 1949, was an alloy-framed 9mm. It's the steel-framed Commander, the Combat Commander, that's a latecomer, appearing in 1970. While I can see why you'd want an all-steel Commander (I own one myself), a steel frame on a CCO seems an unnecessary compromise on a gun that's optimized for concealed carry.

We keep hoping Glock will make a 1911 one. And why not? They finally answered everyone's prayers with a single stack 9mm. Give them another 10 years or so....

Good info folks, ATL do you have any more info on the kimbers?

Point of all of this is that after years of carrying different 1911 and others I have decided that I don't give a rip about weight. Compact and thin is what matters to me. A 1911 with slim grips fits that bill pretty nice. As do a few others. But what I don't have is the subject.

Tipoc - yup, there's the O4610 I mentioned. It's on my wish list - probably my next 1911. The more time I spend with 1991 series guns the more I like them - sure, everybody likes to gripe about the Series 80 system, but there's something very satisfying about a simple, no-frills 1911.

Currently there's a NIB Colt Combat Commander in 9mm. on Gunbroker with a BuyNow price of $794.99. I use to buy Combat Commanders in .38 Super then added a 9mm. barrel assembly and magazines for shooting cheaper practice ammo.

I was just looking at the STI website and they make an all-steel CCO in .45 or 9mm called the Guardian. I'm not really a CCO fan but STI make good guns.
