Looking for the best place to buy some steel targets. Looking mainly for 5 or 6" rounds and hangers to practice for hunting with the 44 mag.

I buy from ebay. For $18 you can get a 6" AR500 gong that's 1/2" thick and will last forever with 44 mag.

With free shipping.

I use shootsteel.com . Really happy with their stuff. eBay and Amazon are options as well just make sure you read what you are buying. Some of it is not ar500 and some of it is not cut the correct way which weakens the steel, especially the outer edge. Shooting steel is definitely more fun than paper all the time! I have white and orange spray paint on hand to freshen them up if they need it. Shootingtargets7.com is another place I heard good things about. Both of these places also have target stands and mounts as well. I have one stand but just use a Sheppard's hook with a tpost and some zip ties to help support the weight ( my targets are 8, 10, and 12 inches)

The shepherds hook attaches to a target that has a single hole at top. Lots used to display plants but good for targets.

Are you attaching the shepards hook to a t post?

You can, IF you want semi-permanent, the "T" posts make the shepherds hooks hold up better, especially with the heavier plates. For my smaller plates I just stick the hook in the ground and hang them.

Yellows in the middle are just hung on hooks, but they're small 4":

I prefer to mount most of my steel on movable stands so I can vary my CoFs and drills.

I add springs so the plates have some "give", it helps with the longevity.

I've bought most of my stuff (30+ pieces of AR500) from Arntzen, and Quality Targets, haven't had a complaint with either company.

The targets have a 5/8th hole at the top. I hang the target off of the Sheppard's hook and then pound a T-bar post in the ground and fasten it to the Sheppard's hook with zip ties to ad support since the targets are heavy. Youtube has several homeade target stand videos as well. There are also hangers you can get to put just on a tpost. I like the one I bought from shootsteel.com the best as it has a base stand, hanger post and a static spring, but the Sheppard's hook works well on the cheap. There are all kinds of target stand options on Amazon as well if you don't want to build one

Nice set up! Those are some nice homeade stand, I might borrow your idea :). I have also heard the Arntzen targets are really good, just couldn't remember their name. I believe that is what Hitchcock45 (the YouTube guy) said I'd all he uses and he has a ton of them and they take a lot of rounds

Check out spectre targets in Fayetteville, NC. They have an online catalogue and they can also do custom stuff. (910) 484-4867

A while ago, I would have said wideners.com, but they got rid of the decently priced targets. Their 6" gong I got has withstood everything from .22lr to .308

Try http://hangfasttargets.com/ I have *not* bought there, but probably will be in the near future because their system looks like it could be fun.
