Steiner binoculars

Is any one familure with Steiner Binoculars, I am hearing that Stiener has some Binos that make Animals jump out at you like 3D when using them. Is this true and if so, how in the world does this work.

They are good binoculars, arguably the best for the money; i use them sailing as well as hunting...but do they have magical powers to identify and illuminate based on fur or heat source? ah, no.

They make great range finding binoculars, but they are very proud of them.

I am lukewarm on Steiners.
When I purchased my binos a few years ago I spend quite a bit of time comparing one against another, brand vs. brand.

The Steiners were noticeably less bright than all of the others in a comparable price range.

The focus from 5 feet to forever is the feature your likeing much, not haveing to find and focus.
I use Steiner predators and the wife has a pair of Safari's, hers for 7+ years, mine for 5 or so now, in all kinds of conditions and temps, gets pretty wild here in the Arctic

I own a nice pair of Steiners 10x 50.....great optics, only thing that jumped out on me was the price.

I have 3 or 4 and consider them among the best for the money. All of mine are at least 10 years old so I don't know much about the new ones. I have a pair that are 40 years old that I bought in Germany. Glass is actually better than the new ones but that's normal for most things today.

It depends on WHICH Steiners you are talking about. The Military and Marine versions are among the worst I've ever held in my hand. I've tried some of the other more compact versions and they are pure garbage.

Even their high end stuff is overpriced and over rated. For the same money you can do a lot better.

ive got a set of predetors. the one thats suppose to make game jump out. None have jumped out at me yet and to be honest my 300 dollar monarch 5s have just as good of glass and do just as well in low light. Dont get me wrong. there far from junk. there decent glass and have a reputation for being the most rugged binocular made. Just dont think your buying high grade german glass. I bought mine looking for an upgrade to the monarchs and really didnt get it. I just ordered a pair of leupold mckinnley hds. Hope they are as good as some of the reviews ive read.

Warranty Sucks!

I had a pair 20 years ago that something failed on the right side. Said Lifetime Warranty so I phone up the US distributor and was basically told tough s#!t . After telling them I would pass along their policy to my friends at SCI, they caved in and let me send them in. When they were returned they sent a letter saying not warrantied any more. Best thing that ever happened is when they were stolen from my truck.

Have had good service with the 8x30 military and marine model and the Police line(same just black with Police on them).

I bought a pair of compact Steiner Safaris, 8x22, and I don't think they're any better than an inexpensive pair of compact Simmons I have, although the Steiner's were 5x the cost.

I also have a pair of 10x22 compact Barska's I got for free with some marine equipment purchase, those are just total Chinese garbage.

I was just looking at steiners myself so this thread is well timed. So the general consensus appears to be that steiners are nothing special. In the 8x20-8x30 range (or even 7x) what do ya'll like for under 200? preferably closer to 150 and not huge. I have some nikon prostaff atb 10x25's that are overpowered for birds in the backyard but sure are a nice size for packing around. I have some 10x monarchs for when I need more power.

I've got a pair of the 10X50 Police model - seem quite nice to me and not that expensive if you shop for them.

I had an old pair of Steiners,and was looking at the new Predators. I compared them to several other brands,and went with the Zen Ray ED3's instead.
The glass was better,and they seem to be everything that I want in a good pair of binos.
I enjoyed using the Zen Ray's all season long deer hunting.
I bought a demo set directly from Zen Ray for a great price,and they carry the full Lifetime warranty.

A little over 20 yrs. ago when I was working in the business, I had the opportunity to make hands on comparisons with many different one's, and Steiner was horrible compared to other optics considered as top shelf glass, but they were sure priced up there with the good stuff though. But I don't know if they've changed their product or come up with a better concept, but back then they were no better than a $30 pair of Bushnell.

I also stopped to talk with a G&F guy a few years back that was carrying some Steiner's issued by G&F. He asked to take a look through my Leupolds and was amazed at the difference. When I put his up to my eye's, besides being terribly heavy and having awful imaging, they actually caused my eye's to immediately feel stressed.

I use binoculars on a daily basis. The Steiners I had a few years ago were the military model. The optics were at best fair, and they weren't particularly durable.
