Sterling PPL .380

Does anyone have any information about this pistol. It is easily one of the ugliest guns I have ever seen. How long were they made? How do you fieldstrip it, etc.? Thanks for the help.

Sterling Arms Corp started @ 1968. Around 1971 E&R Machine became their licensed manufacturer. 1n 1973 Sterling became a subsidery of E&R Machine. Sterling Arms were made until the end of 1983.

Your best bet is to surf the auction sites for a manual and/or post in as many firearms related forums as possible.

Yes, the PPL is a unique looking model of the Sterling Arms Co. Gasport & Lockport, NY. I have a model 302S which my dad carried for years that I was just able to secure an additional magazine for. It's ammo picky and seems to only digest 22 Stingers. I recently saw a model 400S and it's a rather normal looking 380 which if I recall correctly was double action. Looking at the 8th edition Balderson guide they made numerous semi-auto's and a 22 cal. singleshot takedown "Backpacker" rifle. Sterling Arms Corp. & Sterling Revolvers appear to have been in business 70+ years prior.

triguy, I don't think Sterling Arms and Sterling Revolvers were the same company. If I Remember Correctly, Sterling Arms in Gasport NY started up (as already stated) in the late 1960's. I don't think they ever produced a revolver.

And Scot you a dead-on about the PPL being the ugliest handgun ever made. I read somewhere that only a few hundred were produced.

Starter52, yes you are correct. The two companies I mentioned had no ties to the more modern Sterling Arms Company. I'm always amazed at the number of short lived cottege industy gun makers that have been around especially in NY.
