Local shop has both a Springfield 87A and a Springfield 187. I gather they're different versions of the same gun, but I'm curious to know which is considered the better one. The 187 looks newer and cheaper.
Yep, same design with different manufacturing dates. As you suspected, the 187 is the newer version of the two. I have a prewar 87A. Very accurate rifles, as far as autoloaders go.
