I recently emailed Steyr in Austria to see if they were planning on producing a rail adapter for their current M series pistols. They did get back to me saying that there is such an adapter and they will be available soon. The problem is the distribution channel here in the US is not setup right now. I have been on a mission to find one of the new Pictinny rail adapters for the Steyr M9, and M40. I remembered that O’Dell Engineering in Canada also carries Steyr parts. I contacted Phil O’Dell to see if this was a part he had in stock, or planned to have in stock. He got back to me saying that it is a part that he can order. They are going to be around $30 per adapter and he can have them in Canada in about 4 weeks. They then take a couple of weeks to reach us here in the US. He said that he would be willing to order some in, but thought it would be nice to know how many to order initially. I told him that I would post that they are going to be available and ask home many people would be interested.

The question is how many people here would be interested in purchasing an adapter for their Steyr M Series from O’Dell?? I will send him an email letting Phil know how many people would be interested. Obviously everyone that says they would like an adapter is not locked into getting one, but it would be nice when this is all done if most everyone orders one. Otherwise Phil will be stuck with a bunch adapters.

PS Cross posted to GlockTalk.com

Cool! I want one! I have not use for one, but by God I want one! :p

If the fore grip is legal that would be kinda fun :)

HMMM I have an S40 and don't see a need for one on it since it's used for concealed carry, but if were to buy an M40 for a house gun yes, I would want one.

count me in----think i'd rather have the handle than the light-----lol

Kinda gives it a MP-5 look.

Actually, what I really really want is some sort of plug to go into the heal of the grip beside the magazine (where that stock Flashpoint posted hooks to the bottom of the grip) for some reason polymer pistlols all seem to have that open spot thats just crying for a plug.

Though the forward pistol grip coupled with this...

Damn that NFA and '86 Firearms owners "protection" act :banghead:

Although if you get the 16" barrel I bet it would be legal

:what: I want two!!!

I want, I want.

its so nice to know steyr has not forgotten us. was wondering when that would be released. 6 more weeks though atleast, ugh.

vertical grip probably not legal in the US.

might be for legal glock 18's in US but not alot of them. same with stocks for the glock and steyr.

"Although if you get the 16" barrel I bet it would be legal"

I think the 16 inch barrel would officially turn it into a rifle... and making it not legal because the reciever is registered as a pistol... so no point in making the barrel longer unless that is what you want.

I think.

Gun Laws... becoming more complicated than my phone bill or the Tax Code.

No, the supreme court chimed in on this one. You can turn a pistol into a rifle any day of the week. Thanks Thompson Center. You can then turn said rifle back into a pistol. One thing you will NEED to do is verify that with the stock and barrel installed, overall length is longer than 26" Shouldn't be a problem with the weapons listed.

hopefully know more later. though for some of us out there. we have been waiting a long time.

Flash I agree it is a little less then ideal, but since I do have two M Series pistols I figure it will be an advantage to be able to mount a ligt on them. It does hang down more then if the rail was integrated, but it is cheaper then buying a whole new gun.

The one I was making at work is basically the same. I used the M3/M6 adapter rail for shotguns, milled 2 slots in the top to accomodate a clamp that grabs those two cut outs in the frame, which I scavenged from a laser sight and modified. Got to contouring the bottom to fit the pistol and fitting to length when other projects intervened. Good to know, as buying one will be much easier. No blackening/re-annodizing the Al. :)

Nothing is more complicated than a phone bill....other than a woman. I would love a laser for my M-9.

I did find a company that is selling the M6 laser and light for only $239.95! Everybody else is selling it for at least $40 more.

Farm Police Supply Store

The are currently out of stock, but will have more M6s in two weeks

Thats a good buy. I have been keeping my eyes open, but haven't seen too many of these going that cheap. Good find.

Sticking the vertical grip on the pistol without a stock would turn it into an unregistered AOW. (I wanted to do this with my Steyr SPP but decided I didn't want 10 years in club fed)

Sticking the stock on the pistol with a barrel less than 16" would be a big no no too, unless you want to fill out the Form 1 and have it registered as a Short Barrel Rifle. (also wanted to do this with my SPP)

Once you register a weapon as a SBR you can freely take the stock off and leave a vertical grip on it. It is always considered a SBR after it is registered even if the configuration changes.

Hope this helps. :scrutiny:

From PMs and my post here and on Glock Talk it looks like we have at least 15 people that would like an adapter. I told Phil he might want a few more then that just in case. I imagine that when we all start getting our adapters everyone that doesn't have one will want one. Of course maybe by then they will be available here in the US. Now we all have to be patient and wait for them to show up.
