I'm looking at picking up a solid, compact, 9mm 1911 for my wife. I haven't found a whole lot about the STI Escort, but was hoping someone here can help sway me one way or another.

Thanks!

No experience with the STI but my wife carries a 9mm 1911 that was built with an officers frame and commander slide. Basically a CCO and it runs really well.

Another option for you is Dan Wesson has the ECO model in 9mm

If you want a better option, the Sig P938 or Sig P238 (.380) are the only small 1911 style pistols that I will trust.

The smallest 1911 platform that I will trust is the commander model.

That being said, STI makes great pistols, but they didn't redesign the wheel (or 1911)* so the subcompact models can still have problems.

*STI's 2011 pistols are sweet though, and are a nice spin in the 1911 design.

I have a 9mm 1911 commander length. It's a range gun, I like it, it's accurate and I hit well with it, but it's not reliable enough for carry. The Sig or the CZ's in 9mm or .380 are a better choice IMHO. If you are locked on to a 1911, please have a competent gunsmith do a reliability job on it.

Here's a sight you should visit.

Thanks guys, i own a kimber custom ultra cdp ii in .45 which has been flawless, however I've had no experience with STI.

I'll look into the Sig, or maybe I'll just end up with a glock 19.

I've been carrying an STI Guardian (4") in 9mm for several years. It would not be my primary carry unless I had complete confidence in the gun. I've put several thousand rounds through it both in range time and in competition without issues. In addition to being reliable it enjoys the accuracy I've come to expect from my STI competition pistols. STI has an excellent reputation and I own a number of their 1911/2011 pistols. My experience with Kimbers has only been through friend's who have them I would not swap. While I DO NOT want to start a fight with folks who love their Kimbers, in my opinion you are taking a step up in quality with STI.

My wife has an STI Escort in 9mm that she can carry in her purse. I certainly would not trust her life with an STI product if I had concerns about the reliability of the platform. Rob Pincus (in the video attached in an earlier post) has a lot of videos and holds training classes and has a great deal of experience, but I base my decision on my own years of experience. Additionally he is referring to sub-compact 1911s and references 2 1/2" and 3" 1911s.

The decision is yours, but if your looking at an officer or commander length 1911 you would be hard pressed to do better than STI.

I ended up ordering the STI Escort yesterday, and am looking forward to trying it out.

Hey now, I love my Kimbers, and I agree with you.
