I recieved my new Ranger II about four days ago from Dawson Precision, today was the first chance i've had to shoot it. All I can say is WOW!
I fired a total of 100 rounds right out of the box, the gun worked like a swiss watch, accuracy is excellent point of aim is point of impact. No failures of any kind. I can't believe STI can build this kind of gun for what it cost.
$927.00 plus $65.00 for night sights and another $150.00 for the DP package from Dawson's.

David, I would say the STI's fit and finish is equal if not a little nicer than my TRS, that being said I only have 100 rounds through the STI and over 2000 through the Les Baer without any problems.:)

I bought a Trojan from Dawson with his reliability package and trigger job. My experience has mirrored yours. 300 rounds without a hiccup, accurate as hell, and the fit and finish are excellent. In my opinion it's as good a gun or better than some nearly twice the cost. A real value.

IMHO, STI's single stacks seemed to be priced low for what you got. Nice to know I wasn't alone in this.

This hasn't stopped me from cozying up to thier 2011, but they're not the inexplicable screaming bargain that the single stacks seem to be.

If my results with the original Ranger are any indication you'll run 1900 more rounds through the STI and still be mystified by the price.

What does the DP package consist of?

From here:

Description:
Enhancement Package is simply making a geat pistol better. Dave Dawson checks each pistol top to bottom for fit, function and appearance . We setup the breech face, extractor, ejector, mag release and feed ramp the same way we would a DP custom built pistol. Next we install a DP sear spring and tune the action. Then the pistol is test fired for flawless function, accuracy and zeroed at 25 yards. Hey if you were buying a Mustang how cool would it be to have Shelby tune it up a little first..

I can vouch for the pistol showing up in dire need of a cleaning. Admittedly, I view this as a good thing as it verifies the function check - sure didn't leave STI that way. Also, there's a little baggie with the original part(s). Mine had the sear spring and the original front sight. Like the OP, my VIP's POA = POI.

The problem is that you'll come to expect nothing less.

Ranger II

The sight's are Heinie straight 8's. I wasn't sure how I'd like them, I discovered I do like them because they allow both precise and quick shot's due to only 2 dots to line up.
I can't wait to take this gun out tomorrow and put a couple hundred rounds down the pipe.
