I am in the market for a .45 1911. It’s been rough trying to find one that I like:

No front cocking serrations
Series 70 firing pin
Ambidextrous safety (I am a lefty...)
No internal locks (Springfield is OK since their lock is easy to replace)
Standard internal extractor
Adjustable and visible dovetailed sights
No guide rod
Beavertail grip safety
Costs less than $1000

Believe it or not, no one appears to *currently* make this gun (if you find a manufacturer, please let me know!). The Springfield loaded designs all have front cocking serrations. The Para Ordinance single stacks all have the “power extractor.” Smith and Wesson’s all have the grip activated firing pin block… Ed browns are great, but I don’t have that level of cash… etc.

The STI Trojan appears to fit the bill and it’s less than $1000 (barely). I can replace its guide rod. However, it’s got those nasty front cocking serrations. The 2006 STI catalog explains that the STI Trojan 5.0 has an "Alternate Top End" option. STI does make a rear cocking serration only slide.

Has anyone tried to order an “Alternate Top End” STI from the factory?

Thanks.

If you can possibly wait until you have the additional funds for the Ed Brown, you will be glad that you did.

The Trojan is probably the best production 1911 out there.

Call STI on Monday morning and see what they will do for you. They WILL build one for you just the way you want it, but I don't know what premium would apply. The build time coming out of STI is pretty good too, one the way you want it should not take long.

Good folks and good guns. I hope that they can help you.

If you start looking in the Ed Brown price range, look a the STI Legacy. Dave Dawson or Brazos Custom can get you one cheaper than MSRP.

Agree with you on forward cocking serrations.

Another option is to go the custom package route. check out http://www.yost-bonitz.com/packages/1asterisk/. This job on an existing 1911 that you currently own would be less than a grand.

I called STI to place an order a couple days ago. Lead time for shipment is expected to be mid June, so they are a little backlogged. They can likely make you one without the front serrations (I'm not positive about that), and for an added charge will give you any serial number you want.
