Anyone ever had a trigger job done on their 99 ?? Mine is gritty 1/2 way through the pull right before breaking.

The first thing I would do is pull the stock off so you can get too it, and throughly clean it.
Then lube the trigger sear surfaces with Gun-Slick Graphite grease, or Moly grease.
I am kinda hesitant to recommend stoning & polishing, as replacement parts are getting mighty scarce if somebody screws something up.

Sounds like dirt to me, also. Had a 99 (sold it) with a sweet action, throughout. Try everything else before you work any metal.

Assuming it's a Savage M99 , remove buttstock and clean the trigger assembly.
WD, followed by some air from a can or compressor then a dab or two of your favorite gun oil.
Do NOT mess with the workings of a Savage Model 99 unless you are REALLY sure of yourself.
These particular rifles , as old as some may be, are for the most part trouble free.
More than one in this family and they are as dependable as the day they left the factory.

we have a winner!! Savage Model 99 lever gun from 1951; sorry for the vague description, it's in .300 Savage and really is a great shooter, it's just that trigger

Many a fine 99 has been screwed up by getting the striker/sear angle just a wee bit wrong. Lube it and use it, is all I'd recommend.

Has a magazine article from 1977 on "Slicking the Savage 99".
5 of the 7 pages are on trigger improvement.
In that article it says, "Unfortuenatley, the trigger and sear engagement at point "C" is concealed in the receiver recesses, so adjustment of the sear notch is something of a trial and error proceedrure..."
Here is a 1917 250 Sav take down I saw at a gunshow for $200. I dickered them down to $175.
I bought a Shilen stainless select match 6mmPPC take off barrel for $75 on Ebay, 5.1 pounds 21.5 inches long [ bull barrel].
I drilled and tapped the old Sav 99 receiver using a later model Sav 99 as a pattern.
I cut Sav 99 square threads on the barrel and milled the 3 breech cuts.
I chambered the barrel for 6mmBR.
The rifle weighs 9.5 pounds without scope or rings.
I took it to the range and fired a few groups.
With an 8 pound trigger it shot a 0.1" 3 shot group at 50y and a 0.3" 3 shot group at 100y.

No matter what mod's one does to those Savage's, they still shoot lights out! First one I've ever seen like that, interesting to say the least.
