Still can't get used to AR's short butt stock.

Really like this First AR: the brand-new S&W Sport II. But even though I'm only 5'11", the fully-extended factory stock needs another 1" to be added.

It feels a bit cramped and therefore I can't get in the mood to go shoot it much any more. The two (all-original) Russian Saiga rifles have longer, fixed plastic stocks, but feel much more natural.
Despite the gritty triggers and leaf sights, they are more fun to shoulder. Most previous shooting with Enfield #4s and lots of SKS (short Chinese) with a soft, loose, rubbery recoil pad.

All of the pads I've seen via Google are just 1/2" recoil pads, or don't appear to fit the S&W AR Sport II.
Nobody seems to manufacture a basic, lower-cost 1" extension for these.

Check magpul tons of ar stuff , maybe a fixed stock would be a fit for you, I have installed both magpul but stock fixed and hand guard on 1 of my ar works great and cost was not bad, the sport should use all standard comerical ar parts I believe

Install a Magpul CTR stock to get the locking feature and an enhanced buttpad which will add another 1/2" to the length. I have long arms and this combo works great and no wobble.

Where is your cheek weld? Not everyone shoots nose to the charging handle, so a longer stock is preferred. You could switch to a rifle tube and buffer with fixed A2 stock and easily add that 1".

Post a picture of you shouldering the rifle...

I've never measured, but I doubt there are many fixed stocks out there that are much (if any) longer than a fully extended carbine stock.

I'm 5'10" and shoot with a short stock for AR. Nose to charging handle. The AR has a straight line of sight unlike other rifles.

I have a hard time believing many people actually "need" a longer LOP than a fully extended M4 stock offers, but something like a Magpul ACS-L would add about 1.5 inches.

Purchase a MagPul stock as suggested above, then get a block of wood and make a wide spacer to get the desired length, pretty easy. Most any hardware store would have the longer screws you need.

Other option is to purchase a pad, like this one. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/32...bine-6-position-stock-us-stamped-rubber-black
That will give you 1/2 inch more and might help.

Finally if you wanted, make a 1/2 inch spacer, attach it with screws to the end of your current stock. Cut off the back edge (the rolled over portion that holds it to the stock) of the slip on pad above and epoxy it to the spacer. That would keep your current stock and give you the extra length you want.

I'm in the "A2 is the best stock" camp. Love them. Perfect fit for me. I'm not a door kicker or even remotely tactical, so the length not being changeable doesn't bother me.

Adjustables also feel like wobbly underfolder AKs to me, especially when the gun is scoped and trying to spot hits at long range.

Get an A5 buffer system. VLTOR came out with them, and at least one other major manufacturer (BCM) has their own A5 version. These systems use a longer buffer tube (approximately 1" - though don't quote me on that), a rifle-length buffer spring, and proprietary buffer weights. They seem to work real well with either carbine or mid-length gas systems in a variety of barrel lengths.

The only downside is that many stocks won't collapse fully on the tube. This is generally a merely cosmetic issue, but if that's your concern the VLTOR emod stock specifically made for the A5 system, as well as the Magpul STR stock (not CTR), will collapse fully and fit perfectly. There may be other stocks that will as well, but I"m not familiar with them. I run the Magpul STR, and I love the combination.

You might consider trying a sopmod stock. Not sure how much length it adds but it does have a pad, and is one of my favorite stocks.

You might also consider adding the vltor A5 receiver extension. I believe Azrocks beat me to the punch on recommending it.

I guess you could always get one of those folding stock adapters, seems they'd add at least an inch to it.

I kinda felt the same way when I started shooting ARs. My advice is like others, buy a good butt stock and you will be happy. First, determine if you really need adjustability or collapse-ability. If you don't need either, consider the Magpul MOE stock, but be sure the pull length (LOP) will be correct for you. A problem I had with the cheaper collapsible stocks was they felt wobbly and not solid like I thought a rifle should feel. The best stock I have on an AR is the Magpul UBR Collapsible. Solid as a rock, several locking adjustment points, and can give a LOP longer than I would ever need. Not cheap but I always go by the saying, "you might not always get what you pay for, but you will almost never get what you don't pay for."

-Get a Magpul CTR stock with an extended butt pad
-Get a pistol grip with less angle, such as a Magpul K or BCM Gunfighter
-Don't "chicken wing" your elbows

AKs have stubby LOP and dinky little grips. Odd that you feel this way.

As for your conundrum overall, either go with one of the many aftremarket stocks that will extend LOP beyond normal carbine, or adapt. Shooting carbines is not the same as shooting shotguns or bolt action hunting rifles, don't need to be that far away from the receiver.

I'm 5'10" with a 6'5" armspan (yes, I'm an ape), and usually shoot my ARs with the stock at the 4th position back out of the available 6. All but one of mine sport aftermarket stocks; Magpul CTR, STR, ACS and ACS-L, one MFT MBS, a couple Blackhawks, and two Luth-AR fixed stocks. Only my A2 rifle has a standard fixed A2 buttstock.

I'm betting the skinny, heavily raked stock A2 grip is more responsible for the awkward feel than you realize. Try different grips; plenty that are thicker, and quite a few that are less raked than the standard 25° angle. I like Magpul MOE and Hogue beavertail grips

The Saigas have the "normal" sporting looking stocks with the grip at the back of the receiver, not the separate pistol grip like normal AKs.

Ive seen the plethora of AR pistol grips on the market, but all the ARs Ive had have had the regular A1 or A2 grips. I never found them uncomfortable. The first time I tried a shot at a running rabbit, I hit first round. That continued pretty well when I used to hunt small game with ARs, sometimes it took more than one shot, but the overall handling seemed very good, so I never changed grips, or had any idea I should. I just may not be a good enough shooter yet to appreciate the difference.

When I switched over to grips with less angle, I found I was shortening up the stock on my ARs
