Here's what I want to do...

I recently purchased two guns from my son, a FAL and a Remington M700 SPS tactical in .308win 20" heavy barrel. I already have a Remington M700ADL Varmint in .308 with the 26" heavy barrel. Is it possible to take the ADL and put it into the SPS stock? I want to do this for two reasons. First, the SPS stock is dual point pillar bedded and free floats the barrel. Second, I want the longer 26" barrel for long range shooting.

I won't have the guns in my possesion until next Tuesday so I'm just putting together a To-Do list. If it isn't possible, I'd rather know before I take apart my guns!

Please let me know!

Please no suggestions on just buying a new stock...I've used up ALL of my "Brownie Points" with my wife so I'm not buying any more goodies for myself for the rest of the year!;)

Thanks! - Tim

Gtimothy, that SPS Tactical stock will not be free floating if you add a bipod or use a sandbag further up on the forend, just in case you were considering it.

As long as you keep the bottom metal with the SPS Tactical stock, however, it should just be a drop-in fit with the 26" varmint barrel and action.

Just something to watch out for: The Hogue stock that comes on the Tactical is okay, but not great, and you will most likely be switching out very soon.....(like, the very beginning of next year ;))

Do you handload? Or will you be shooting factory loads? Also, how far will you be shooting, or how far do you consider "long range"?

I'll be shooting from a bench and bag rest usually midway up the fore stock. I am handloading for the 26" right now and am in the process of perfecting my load for it. I'm currently shooting 1.5 MOA at 200yds and consistantly ringing the gongs at 560yds. Still a work in progress though!
