Stolen Guns

Mod's could you please float for a couple of days. I don't expect them to turn up in that time but atleast people will have seen the thread and know they can search the archive if they have anything suspicious come across thier shop.

The following guns were stolen from me out of Oswego, NY some time between monday the 16th of febuary and yesterday.

They were mostly in pelican hard cases as the safe is full, none were boxed with their magazine and all were coated with either a think layer of Sheath or RIG and then in Baichi BLue bags. I am sure shop owners are already suspicious if someone shows up trying to sell a gun withought a mag. I will try and update later with more specifics.

Obviously I am devistated as this is a big part of a ten year collection and represents a significant chunk of change.

Most of the firearms were in locked hard cases, the ones that were not had trigger or cable locks on them. All were packed in plastic bags and spayed with a thick rust preventive. Most did not have any magazines with them in the case and the magazines were still in my storage. I have removed any remaining high dollar value items.

How the holy hell did someone manage to steal 45 guns from you?

I really want to express my condolences for your situation and I hope you recover all of them, and hopefully the thief will spend the rest of their wretched days inside a cell.:fire:

They were mostly in pelican hard cases as the safe is full,

not to flame, but if your not keeping your 10 year, $20,000 collection in your safe, its probably going to make that thief wonder

"hmmmm, whats in the safe?"

red alert! ;)

my condolences.

Good luck with the recovery. When the insurance check arrives you might want to invest in a second larger safe.

ajacobs, if I could make a suggestion, you may want to edit the subject line (if that's possible) to include the words "New York" or "Oswego, NY" or something similar. It would get the attention of people in that area.

I know the guns may end up somewhere else but, maybe not.

OMG!! What a total nightmare. My very sincere sympathies on the losses.

It's very hard to know what else to say but ... in case it helps .. would you like for me to print off a copy of that list and pass it in to my local Sheriff's office? Or will they have automatically had info thru the ''usual channels'' .. I suppose they will .. or should have.

Equally, I guess .. will my local FFL's have an up-to-date list of stolen stuff?

Anything at all we can do thru the THR membership ... I'm sure can maybe help somehow.

How utterly devastating.:(

I hope you get your guns back. THis is why when I get around to
buying guns(waiting on FOID) I won't let my neboriers know that
I own guns and will also keep them hidden.

It would be a good idea to keep your gun safe(s) hidden if you can.

Hey, i'm from a couple hours west of Oswego. I'll keep an eye out for any of these babies and let ya know if someone comes up. There should a be Upstate NY get together thread a bit further down the list. Check in with each of those guys, scattered pretty well across teh state. You could cover a pretty sizable ground then.

Newbie question, say for instance his guns are found at a pawn shop (which the owner of the shop legally paid for) does the owner of the pawn shop lose the money, does the true owner have to pay the pawn shop owner, or is the criminal that hopefully was identified by the sale have to repay, because realisically the thief probably didnt use his real info. So who will legally lose out?

I would hope any pawnshop owner that sees some nincompoop dragging a red ryder wagon stacked 5 foot high with pristine firearms would have the savvy to call it in. I am pretty sure if he buys stolen property, the pawn owner loses the property, and no compoensation is given. The law sees it as "let the buyer beware" I suppose.

AUadvisor if someone finds their stolen gun in a pawnshop, they get it back for free (as long as you can prove it's rightly yours ;) ). Buying stolen goods means not only that the pawnshop is out of their money, but also possibly in trouble with the law. Buddy had some hockey goaltending equipment stolen once and it turned up in a used sporting goods store. Got it back and store helped track down the criminal, so police didn't punish the store.

ajacobs My condolences. Keep us updated.

I intend to print out your list and distribute it to local gunshops, hope it helps. My condolences for your loss.

If you filed the SN's with the police the pawnshop is supposed to check each serialized item they recieve against a state database of stolen merchandise before they put it out for sale.

Otherwise I would mail your list to every gun and pawnshop within 150 miles.

That's horrible! :fire: I will certainly be happy to circulate this list to the two shops I frequent in the Capital District.

I am from syracuse and I will keep an eye out for any of your collection. I hope you get your guns back. And if you don't mind I am going to copy and past your post to the NY Forum over at AR15.com.

:uhoh: Wow, that's a lot of fire power to put out on the street! Naturally, you've filed a police report, correct! One of the first things I would do is canvas the teenagers in the neighborhood. Offer a decent reward for information and post it throughout the community, too. When my home was robbed of valuable camping equipment a number of years ago, that's how I caught the teenagers who committed the crime. (Their mother was dating a state trooper; he came to the house; and, in return for my 'sympathy' he promised to have everything promptly replaced. After everything was, either, replaced or returned in A-1 condition, I dropped the whole affair. Never had anymore trouble with the kids, either.) ;)

Any LEO's

No one has as yet picked up on a question I asked earlier ..... will this info be by default fully disseminated by now?? Thru the ''grapevine'' shall we say. I guess it is databased but .... is that enough?

If there is doubt on that score then I will drop in a copy of the list to local Sheriff's office and my local FFL .. I know this is some ways away from the scene but ... as is so often the case ... stuff soon goes outa state and to parts far away.:(
