Stolen Guns - NY

P95,

There is no reason to believe that the list would be circulated outside the state of NY through normal LE channels... it might not even make it around the whole state. I am not aware of any network established by the ATF or any other agency to alert FFL Dealers. Pass the word.

I work at a gun shop and the city has a ordnance that we have to get a picture ID (DL) address car license and all ID marks on the firearm, we have found several stolen firearms this way, and it all goes through the BATF so there is a national list. A gun stolen from us was found in PA. and that is a long way from TX. so find out how to get the SN to BTAF's stolen gun list that way the serch is nation wide.
Do not expect to get them back as soon as they are found the one that was found in PA was stolen three years ago they found it six mo. later and it still is in the BTAF's possesion as evidence.

A suggestion from posters at GT.

"Perhaps you should email this list to gunbroker.com, gunsamera.com or auctionarms.com? Maybe they would keep an eye out for makes/models"

"As well as Glock...the thief may try to get the "E" frames "upgraded" "

Well ..... hopefully every little bit helps ... or might.

Just dropped in a list to my own local FFL, one to the Sheriff's office and at their suggestion, also dropped a copy off to the State Police on the way home. Long shot probably but .. here's hoping.

Thread recently got "Sticky" status over at Glock Talk, so some good exposure there too. Hopefully, the crooks will screw up sooner rather than later ...

Hope you get'em all back. I had three stolen from me a few years ago, Police picked up one in a routine roadblock, I found at a local Pawn Shop and the owner said it wasn't mine and wouldn't let me see it again when I told him I could prove it. I left and got the Sheriff and a screw driver and went back. The Sheriff told him to give it to me and I took the butt plate off and there was my name and last 4 of my ssan #. Sheriff said it's his, and we left. Shop owner lost his money unless he wanted to bring a lawsuit on the thief. I went to another PS in a neighboring town and asked if they had a certain type of 22 pistol for hunting and the owner said they had no 22 pistols in the store. I had been told by a guy who knew the thief that was where he pawned it so I took the Sheriff over there and he told the Owner he wanted to see his books and my serial # matched a 22 pistol (which he didn't have???)in his book. The Sheriff asked to see the pistol and he pulled it out of a drawer, he compared the srl # as well as my name and last 4 of my ssan# stamped inside of the grip and said it's his. He also lost the money he had in it. Sorry to go on about it but thats what happened to me. I hope everyone keeps a list of their serial #'s.

"Just a thought...how far is Oswego from the Canadian border? Anyone thought to alert Canadian customs and the RCMP?"
If the numbers are in NCIC, they'll come up if the Canadians check numbers

This just makes me sick. :(

I have posted this in the "Arsenal" forum of a very large messageboard I post on.... we'll all be on the lookout for these weapons.

I hope you make some progress. :fire:
