Storing ammo loose in containers?

As a handloader, I have ammo stored in 100- and 50- round plastic boxes, old GI ammo boxes, and gallon pickle jars.

How many rounds of 45 fit in the 20mm(?) can? That has got to be a two man lift..

I can tell you that there is 700 45s in the 30cal can in the pic I posted and it is pretty darn heavy. M2's can must be at least a two man lift.

I have 1,000's of rounds stored in plastic coffee cans. No problems so far.

I honestly don't know.
No, no one ever moved it.
I do good carrying a 50 cal can full of 9mm or 45ACP.

At the time I was on a, load every empty case I have kick, so I just kept loading 45 and dumping it in that can, and a couple others, until I ran out of fired brass.


Since that picture was taken, I and fiends have shot most of what was in that can. It's full of Wal Mart 22LR bulk packs now.
And I'm still not picking it up.

I once accidentally knocked a .30 cal ammo nearly full of .45acp off a 4 ft. shelf. One of the cartridges went off. Rim shaped dent in primer. Split the case, found the bullet, and some unburned Red Dot. No damage to the can and none of the other cartridges went off.

Fluke? Probably but it can happen.
