Received in a shipment of some ammo to top up my supply and one of the plastic boxes of 17 hmr broke wide open. The sides of the box are broken and individual shells were bouncing around with the other plastic boxes.

Has this ever happened to you? If so, what did you do? Does it affect accuracy?

I don't want to be petty as it is just a broken plastic box. On the other hand, I do use the boxes to store the ammo until needed. I keep a supply on hand so the box is stored and stacked. But, I could just toss it in a bag or another box and say no big deal and make an effort to shoot some HMR sooner rather than later. In any event, if this is the biggest problem this week, I am doing pretty good !!

Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it, it won't effect accuracy. I've gotten bags of loose ammo and never had a problem. Shoot'em and have fun!

I broke a couple boxes by falling on them with them in a backpack. I stuck the ammo in a coffee can and it was just fine. No need to get worked up over it, just move it to an empty box or use it up first.

Yes, this same thing happened to me, on my last order of CCI .22LR ammo. One box had it's side broken off, and the tray came out. Luckily all was accounted for in the large cardboard box. I don't think ammo performance will be affected. I was able to tape the plastic box back together.
A couple years ago, an order of bullets, along with other stuff, had the cardboard bullet box tear pen, and the 500 .357 bullets were scattered inside the bigger box. Some did get out onto my deck, and I think a few may have been lost. Those shippers get violent with our packages!
Fortunately never had any air guns or cap&ball revolvers damaged in shipping.

Happened to me with Midway for .22 Long Rifle ammunition they shipped in a box large enough to hold a 32 quart cooler. I complained, sent pictures of the loose ammunition in the huge box and got my S&H refunded.

The ammunition was fine; I put it into into 12 gauge shotgun shell boxes labeled with a section of factory box taped on the outside.

I ordered a variety of shotgun ammo once and it was shipped in a jumbo box. Sorting 3 gauges and 2-3 shot sizes for each gauge was oh so much fun!

Hornady makes really fine products. Packaging obviously is not one of them. They obviously used the cheapest thing they could find. Cardboard probably would have stood up better.

Id just email whoever you bought it from and let em know what happened and politely suggest that they reconsider their packaging procedure. then just shoot it. no big deal, its just a throw away plastic box.

Had an issue with 9mm UMC ammo in a 250 pack from Walmart. The large box had been dropped ( not obvious) causing one box of 50 inside to have 20-30 cartridges with noticeable bullet setback. Remington sent me a check for the bad ammo.
Your ammo is probably ok but compare the cartridge OALs.

It happens, as long as all the ammo is in there and not otherwise crushed or damaged I pick them up, put them away and don't worry about.

Getting bulk packages of bullets for reloading intact is a rarity. The USPS "If it fits it ships, up to 70 lbs" means they drop them a lot on the way to you. :) But can't beat the shipping price.

They are very dangerous now, do not shoot them, things can go wrong, children can be hurt, the earth will be tossed of it's axis. If you use this ammo, Hillary will deffinetely be the next president. Do I need to continue ?

Shoot me, they are fine. You will be fine, don't worry.

Cheers

Meh.

If it were me, I wouldn't be worried about it, from the looks of the pictures. I'd probably contact the company that shipped them and let them know what happened, but I wouldn't really be concerned about any action. I'd be doing it as a matter of professional courtesty: they pack and ship stuff to people all the time and they really don't want to have upset customers.

I usually have a few empty CCI boxes around, so any CCI ammo I order which came like this I'd just box up in an older one and call it a day.

As a side note, sometimes when you report stuff like that, the company gives you a credit you can use in a future purchase, or even ships you another box for your troubles. I don't expect it, so it's a pleasant surprise when it happens.

:)

Visually inspect to make sure cartridges are safe.

If you wanna be a wise guy call the company and request one empty plastic container. Technically you did pay for the plastic it came in. If you wanna be a wise guy.
