Thus far I *only* have 3 pistols, so they don't take up too much room. I have them stored and transport them(to/from the range) in the original box they came in. Thinking though that as I get more they will take up alot more space re: storage(especially in a safe w/limited space), and transporting more than three at once gets more difficult. I've thought of taking them out of the boxes and just sticking them in my range bag but I'm somewhat worried about scratching the finish of some of my nicer guns.

What do most people do?
Transport/store in the original factory box?
Transport/store loose?
Transport/store in a holster or via some other means?

I use my range bag along with both hard and nylon gun cases for transporting firearms, including long guns. When in the safe, all guns are stored uncovered. No need to store the original boxes in the safe. I already have to disassemble some long guns to get everything stuffed inside and the door closed. :)

I never use factory boxes to transport firearms: they usually don't provide adequate protection, and the better the condition of the original box, the greater the value of the firearm down the road.

thanks for replys

Now looking @ a range bag from i-shot, or perhaps just a gun rug or two to toss in my current bag(converted to a range bag from my flight bag :))

I use a breif case type pistol case. It will hold five pistols. I carry a box or bag for ammo, ear muffs, magazines, etc. Sometimes I use tool boxes from Walmart (plastic, maybe eight inches by eight inches by sixteen inches?) that cost about eight bucks.

re: i-shot

I was looking hard at the i-shot's...nice bag's...I bought the Uncle Mike's because I had a gift certificate that I could cash in and well...it was staring me in the face...

I'm happy with the UM bag but I think you'll like the i-shot just fine too.

Good luck!

Ridgeway-

Gunrugs. Inexpensive ($5 -$15 each) and can be zippered closed. I put the rugged gun(s) in a large inexpensive black nylon hardsided bag with my other range stuff without worry of scratching anything. Carry a large plastic/rubber toolbox for all the little parts, cleaning supplies, tools, etc.

Sure like the looks of the "range bags" that many suppliers offer, but can't justify the cost. Would rather spend my money on guns/ammo!

I store all my handguns in a Liberty Safe. So far, I have not run out of room, but It would be tight if my son ever brought back the ones he 'borrowed" :uhoh:

When I go to the range, I wrap each handgun in a small towel, and put them in my range case. I have been doing this for 25 years (yeah, same towels), and have never gotten a scratch on a handgun.
