Why are they consistently running the same ad, month after month? They have been advertising items for over 6 months, they just don't have. I'm not talking about the mania of the last month+. I'm going way back.

I actually like J&G and I've bought some ammo and things from them over the years, but most often the gun ads, they never actually have the guns. CZ-82? They haven't has them for a long time. Same ad, week after week.

Anyone know the scoop?

J&G

That is a good observation & a good question, they have done that for years.
I go to their web site, which is more indicative of what they actually have.....there are other vendors that advertise in SGN's that does the same thing, but not to the extent that J&G does.....I guess they just run the ad's to keep their name out there.

I'd be guessing it's cheaper to run a repeat ad. When I used to place ads for my nursery they would have additional charges to edit or replace an ad in addition to the actual cost for the ad.

Print media, whether Shotgun News, Gun Digest, Shooting Times, etc suffer from the age old problem of lead times........meaning they have to get their ad copy in to the printer weeks and months ahead of time. As inventories flunctuate and prices rise hourly......this means the old Shotgun News ad is near meanigless.

Some advertisers have run the same ad for a decade and haven't changed prices..........they know you'll still call to see if the $399 Remington 870 Police Magnum is still in stock.;)

I even figured in the lead times for print media. It's just money then.

At what point do they get prosecuted? I know I couldn't do this in my state. Run ads for things I don't have and haven't had for a year for mythical prices.

It all depends on how it is worded. If it is an "offer" they must sell it to you at that price. If it is merely a solicitation to accept offers they don't have to sell it at the advertised price. Most ads are worded such that they are solicitations for offers. I know it is confusing but that is the law in our country.

I like J&G .... they still had my Tokarev when I bought that, and that silly darned nagant revolver I just ''had to have'', too. They get stuff in, run out, and replenish regularly, and would have to change the ad three times a week to keep up. like someone already said, that's dead-tree media. try the online site for more up to date information.

I've bought 6 CZ-82s from J&G and never had a problem. I also have a Class 3 C&R license, wheather that makes a difference, or not. But it's nice to have guns shipped right to the house.

Sarco does the same thing. Twice I've tried to order something I saw in an SGN ad, and was told that they hadn't stocked that item in several years.

I was thinking about getting SGN, looked at a copy in the bookstore and the ads were like nothing had changed in the last 6 weeks; decided it was pretty much worthless until things get back to "normal".
