stranded on an island ,one gun

H&R single-shot shotgun and a couple of cases of shells. If it doesn't have a tight choke, you should have no problem shooting flare rounds, too.

410/.22lr is absolutely your best bet unless you're on an island full of grizzly bears. For those that chose an AK, or any other large caliber rifle, what the hell are you thinking?

I want a German 88 and very large quantity of star shells. I do believe I will get a passing airliner to notice me. I've always wanted a German 88, so this will help with morale while I wait for rescue. If an airliner doesn't notice my distress signals, surely BATFE will figure out I haven't paid the taxes on the shells and come after me. F troop to the rescue!

Blast, you blew it and asked The Professor when you should have just asked MaryAnn.

On all my desert islands MaryAnn gets what ever she wants.

A Winchester model 97 or model 12 12 ga and plenty of shells.
I doubt you will find any large game on a island. Plenty of birds which a shotgun is better for and perhaps goats or the like.

If you where stuck on a island (lots of sand and dirt) and could olny have one gun ,any gun what would it be, what is the best gun

I had this discussion with friends before with "Lost" in our heads. I would want a rifle that could take hogs, but also be ready to engage people I might encounter- locals, Darma bad guys, pirates, drug smugglers, who knows?

So with the idea of facing marauding bad guys (plus all the dirt and sand), the AK sounds good. Think of how much some AKs would have helped Swiss Family robinson.

What you need is carbine length AR that has a telescoping stock with a Daniel Defense quad rail on which you would have to mount a fore grip, surefire weapons light, Lasermax green laser (you can see those better you know) and perhaps an Aimpoint mounted off to he side at a 45 degree angle. Make sure you take a flat top AR with an ACOG so you can reach out and hit those targets that you cant get to with your red dot or flip up Midwest Industries iron sights. You better also make sure that you have a LaRue quick detach mount on that ACOG so that you can get it off quickly if it becomes damaged or if you want to mount another optic such as an EOTech which I highly recommend you bring along. For ammo, I would say 3 or 4 beta C-mags should work to carry on your person.
Oh, I almost forgot that your quad rails might get snagged on something so some Magpul rail covers might be in order.
You can never be too tactical in such situations.

Or maybe I have been spending too much time at ar15.com…..

Sorry... I couldn't help but a smartash

an AK-47

Because the ammo for it is so widespread you will probably find it wherever your are going, even on an uninhabited island :p

that, and you can fix it with a rock

Wait, lets do mine:

You can only have one gun but later you can buy two more, but one has to be a rifle and one has to be a revolver, then you have to sell one of them and six weeks later you win a shotgun in a raffle and later your mom gets sick so you have to sell off half of your collection, then she recovers and you can buy one milsurp bolt action rifle and after three months you can buy another handgun and a week after that a friend of the family dies and his widow says you can take the three guns he owns but like right after that you throw a rod through the block while trying to escape a road rage incident so you have to sell two of your long guns and then after years of hard work you decide to buy a new hunting rifle to use for whitetail deer and then when you hear the economy is about to collapse you figure you should own a sniper rifle and a combat shotgun with a pistol grip and right after that you join a group buy for a semi-auto assault rifle.

What would they all be?

Mark 45 ~ 5-inch, 54-caliber lightweight gun, still attached to the US Navy Guided Missle Destroyer it came on.

Wait a minute, is this the island with those mutant polar bears running around on it?
If it is, don't worry about it. More guns will keep popping up as time goes by until everyone has a few.

Hmmm. Depends on who I get stranded with. I might not want a flaregun. Then again, if it were Hil, oh yeah, I'd want a hugh flaregun!

Seriously, the thread (OP) doesn't present enough of the criteria to make an informed decision. If I were on Kodiak Island, give me a .375 H&H Mag, .416 Rem Mag or .458 Win Mag. If any island that has nothing more dangerous than wild hog, give me a nice .30-06.

Location, location, location.

The one that shoots flares, fresh food and water, and the handle holds a infinite roll of toilet paper. Also? It has an umbrella in place of a bayonet.

No matter where, a 12GA repeater with various loads (birdshot, buckshot, slugs) is probably the most useful firearm to have.

Squidward,

The M6 would not be anywhere near my first choice, although it is a decent gun.

Cons: Terrible trigger, modest accuracy. The main advantage of this gun is that in its original 14 inch configuration, it is small and the trigger can be used with a broken finger (by design). 410 is really too small to be of much use except at very short range. 22 Hornet, as in the original and mine, is a better small game getter that 22 LR, but barely adequate for anything large unless you are very close and can put bullet exactly.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with a good bolt or auto 22, and I can think of many many rifle I'd pick over a rimfire.

YMMV
