is your walnut treated with jewelers rouge by any chance , if so it`s combining with the flitz & creating the thin layer of red compounds.

Now where do you suppose he got that idea?

The OP said that was walnut media. Was that BARE media, or as I suspect, that stuff made by Lyman that's charged with red rouge? Well that's my guess. It looks like what I would expect from that red rouge charged Lyman media.

polish compound

I have been tumbling brass that I resell for a long time. My tumblers run 24/7 with walnut media that I buy from a pet store as reptile litter. It's small enough and much cheaper. When I put in new media, I let it tumble for 5 minutes with a new dryer sheet to catch all the dust. Then I add 3-4 teaspoons of frankford arsenal liquid polish, then after 2-3 batchs I add a capfull or two of nu finish car polish. The brass is clean and shiney in about 4hrs. I put in a new dryer sheet with each batch of brass. The dryer sheets are usually black from all the tarnish and residue. My media lasts several weeks before I need to change it, and thats tumbling several k rnds a week. I would definatley cut way back on the amount of flitz you are using.

OK snuffy you caught me not reading all the posts !!!LOL
i was also going to say that with flitz media polish additive is the only one that i`ve had problems with , either gumming up the cases or making a goo on the sides of the tumbler tub.
i now use a shot of mineral spirits & let it roll !!!
