No, but then again neither were most Confederate soldiers...

On the same vein, I highly doubt that most German soldiers were anti-Semitic, or even knew of the atrocities being committed in concentration camps.

Just like people today say "Support the troops, even if you don't support the war." Soldiers and their implements of war are very different than the politics of the government they serve.
 
I'm not hoplophobic nor do I believe in anthropomorphism, or in haunting. But I believe in symbolism, as does anyone who believes in what he says when he gives the American Pledge Of Allegiance. Thus, while I'm happy to have a K98 Mauser, or a Luger, I'm extremely unwilling to own a Nazi uniform, flag, or other such decorations.

Tables of toys (Not even antique) and jewelry have irritated me at Gun & Knife shows.
I'm fond of shows that hold a standard that at least 80% of the merchant's table must be gun or knife related.

For me it depends on the source.

Replica Nazi flags, etc I would have no interest in.

However, historical items with good provenance are different.

Friend of mine bought a Nazi flag with VERY good provenance to show that it was flown by a U-boat which was subsequently captured by US forces. That is a genuinely interesting and valuable piece of history that should be preserved, along with the story.

But, that kind of stuff is usually very expensive when it comes up for sale.
 
The strangest thing i saw at a gun show was a dud - Panzerfaust.
It was here in germany .. and i knew people were collecting
militaria ... ironcrosses and such ... but a friggin Panzerfaust?

Don´t have to agree - free country - history is important.

As a german who studied history at college, midthirties
i have strong interest in freedom and in military-h and all
things that play a role in it ... weapons, strategy, logistics.

I´ve held a 1942 Luger .. that probably has killed innocents ..
and has definitely given mercy shots to the owners comrades
on retreat from the eastern front.

I am fascinated by the design of the item,
and the history of it. If i could i would want to own the item.

But like the poster above who wouldnt buy anything between 33 - 45
the only way i would wear a nazi uniform was in a comedy-show or
in an anti-nazi demonstration in an act to make fun of them.
But that is the only i can think of.

owning a historic blade, gun or tool and or using it ...
is a pleasure ... how many K98 are still used for hunting today
... especially in germany?

Nobody would use them with an eagle on it, though.

A guy used to come to one of our shows with old tools.

Kind of out of place, but I picked up a very useable adz for 15 bucks a couple of years ago.

I have not seen him lately though.

When I checked in and saw all the responses I was thrilled, then I found there was more than a little topic drift. :eek: If you want to discuss weather some objects are tainted PLEASE start your own topic. Twelve years on internet forums and I have not had a thread locked, yet.
Keep in mind I asked about what you found for sale that was strange not repulsive.
Frankly the posting about the Nazi silver table service fits this topic well, I would not expect to find table service of any sort, let alone silver for sale, the Nazi connection is just the bit that puts it way over the top.
Lets please keep this on The High Road.
 
I have no problems with jewelry at gun shows. Gives the missus something to do, and I get more uninterrupted shopping time. She's actually found some nice jewelry at gun shows.
 
scorpion illuminators (blacklights), fully dmx protocol enabled light controllers and lights, midi sequencers, boxes of ancient ISA bus peripherals, other electronics far out of their element ??

I did buy a tandy coco3 in perfect shape at a phoenix show in 2005; i still use it for rtty for fun in my ham radio setup! (trs-80)

There is a guy that comes to the big Kentucky shows with fossils. I like fossils, but what in the heck does that have to do with guns? The only thing he had pertaining to guns was mammoth ivory in chunks that you could make grips or knife handles out of. Every thing else was fossils like sea creatures, etc.
 
About 3 years ago I was walking past the tables in one of the back corners of the show, there was a kindly looking elderly couple there, she had a whole table of figurines and other such bric-a-brac. I almost went on by, out of the corner of my eye I see the old feller had 3 or 4 guns crowded up behind some craft dolls. I wound up getting a beautiful Marlin 336A DL, 32 Special, made in 1949, complete with receiver sight and the original sling swivels, hardly looked fired or carried at all, took it home for $250.00. They were in from Kali, he complained quite a bit about not being able to sell lever guns, glad to get it out of his hair. Goes to show you, walk slow, look carefully, have some bucks in your pocket. Not the first time I got a helluva deal at a gunshow.

I dont mind a stick or two of jerky, either. ;)
 
WWII long gun with a bent barrel designed to shoot over/around obstacles.

Yellow smiley face buttons with a bullet hole in the forehead, line of blood tracing down from it.
 
For me it was a show after Christmas, and it was a table full of dolls, larger collector type not barbies.
2nd was the guy selling a tilting tables you lay down on, had your feet strapped in some how and inverted yourself with. Guess he didn't know his crowd.
BTW I like the jerky being sold, it tastes better and is cheaper than the snackbar offerings.
It is called a slant board. My grandfather made one in his basement. We used to play on it when we were kids. It actually helps when you can't get to the chiropractor.
 
Years and years ago the local gun store had knives with "Ku Klux Klan" emblazoned onto the blades. These were modern manufacture so its not like they could claim they were of historical significance or anything. I haven't seen any garbage like that in years, but recently the local gun show is sliding down in quality again so who knows.
I saw the same knives at a gun show.
 
Pastel Bed sheets. Not the KKK kind just regular sheets.
They were "Hotel Quality" what ever that means.
 
Wireless remote cameras that could be tossed into a room and would right themselves. Expensive set of surveillance kit, but very interesting.
 
I think the weirdest thing I ever saw, was a guy that had about 500 or so male seatbelt ends, with strap ......Just the male, no female....
 
The strangest thing I ever saw at a Gun Show was in the Berea Fairgrounds Gun Show in Ohio.
There was some Moron walking around wearing a White Power T-Shirt and a cut off Jacket with a Confederate Flag on the Back and KKK Symbols anywhere He had room to have Them.
I kind of followed Him around to see what happened as there were a few African Americans their.
 
Ive also seen people selling socks, gloves, hats, jackets, pants, it was like someone bought everything from the local thrift shop and took up 4-5 tables

The Civil war was not about slavery. It was about state's rights- whether or not a state had the ability to govern itself, and whether or not a state could withdraw from the Union if it felt the Union no longer was addressing its needs. The states lost.

(If you think it was about slavery, let me ask you this: why did Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, and Delaware remain in the Union as slave states? FYI- Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was unconstitutional, and even if it had been constitutional, did not free the slaves in the four states named above.)

well, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Maybe slavery was unconstitutional in the 1st place..

but I agree with you, the Civil War wasnt about slavery..
