Hey allm

A few recent comments about pack violence (and myself almost a victim of this at a gas station), I was wondering if any training options exist for people to have some exposure to this situation. I was looking into taking a simple pistol course, but to me there is a huge difference between basic range shooting and defensive shooting.

Is there any place in Southeastern Michigan that you know of that offers good defensive pistol instruction rather than just basic range work? For example, movement, how to protect your pistol during a confrontation, etc?

If not, is there any place nationally that does this?

Thank you!

Detroit, have you consider IDPA?

It is not training, but many of the scenarios do deal with multiple targets and tachical priorities. You will need to learn elsewhere how to set your priorities and other skills associated with these types of situations but from a tools perspective it is a pretty good place to start practicing the firearms aspect of a multitarget shooting.

Note, I am not saying a multi-threat as not all threats are targets....

John Farnam of Defense Training International (www.defense-training.com)
teaches in Sturgis, Michigan every year and has a good cadre of assistant instructors in that area. Email John, I'm sure he could put you in touch with one of his people in Michigan for some training that is just what you are looking for.
